Hey hey, the front clip is in primer finally, I had enough sanding body filler so I called it good enough. On the down side, the Hurst Quarter Stick I bought earlier in the year at a swap meet turns out to be for a power glide. I figured I'd install that, needing a break from sanding, but nope, nada, no-way. Any one got one (standard pattern th350) at a good price ?
Got my shifter, turns out a buddy of mine had one on the shelf, just ordered a new cable from Summit so that should be all set. Also put another coat of primer on today, so primer is finished ! I talked to another buddy of mine about spraying the front clip for me, might save my back and a few days work. I'm not sure yet, I'd like to stick with it and see it through myself maybe.
Phill go to the Henry J section and hava look http://www.lov2xlr8.no/broch1.html i have not posted this ... so post it anywhere you'd like
Just finished rolling the third coat on when a freaking bird flys into the garage. It commences to start knocking everything down from the rafters, lights, garage door tracks and even takes a shit right on the car. Bastard ass bird, I chased it with the neighbors pool skimmer like I was sponge Bob in a jelly fish field. Never caught the prick but after I sand this off tomorrow it'll be out of there with it's feet pointing to high noon !
Me neither, two weeks till the next race, it'll be tight. I also wet sanded the quarters finally so that's ready for the panel layout to begin. Probably paint the front clip then jump back there to get that going. To much to do in those short weeks aheads, got to call Ron Lasker to get him set up on lettering the quarters too.
No Mike, got a car that needs to finished here....lol Uh ok, I'll let you know if I come across that. If that bird was a starling or a black bird I would have plugged it right away. It was what I believe to be the mom or dad robin to a nest of 4 babies on my back porch.
It could have been much worse and is behind me already, sanded it out this morning and put another coat on this afternoon. Can't even tell it happened, other than all the work...lol
Another coat on and it's looking ok for a roller...lol Started working on the panel lay out, lots of tape in the garbage but this is pretty much it. I was struggling to figure out a way to tie the door art in with the panels, then decided to bring the panel into the doors. since seeing the pictures I decided to get rid of that one curved line on each end I may paint this panel tomorrow, pretty happy with it and Ron is coming on Friday to letter them.
So I paint these panels this afternoon and something weird happened. The bottom tape pulled the clear and orange right off the yellow ! The top tape came off like you would expect, weird I tell ya. The only thing I can figure is that the clear was attached to the tape, maybe dryer at the bottom, then the clear lifted the orange ? Maybe I waited to long to pull the tape ? It'll look good from the bleachers....lol
The joys of painting...like when you have a little scratch on your dash, so you give it a quick sand, and re-spray it and it instantly lifts the surrounding paint ..so instead of a little scratch you have to strip and repaint the whole dash ..... It'll look perfect from the bleachers.
Man that is looking good! I wish I was this far along, but sadly other work has kept me busy. I'll try to start on mine later this summer!
Well here it is, little buffing and the lettering tomorrow and we can call the flat black makeover done. Got right at 200 bucks into the paint job, lots of labor, lots of cussing but it's done !
Thanks Jeff, wasn't to sure I made the right decision just seeing the quarters, but seeing the whole thing I'm good with it.
Nice. I'm a big fan of panel paint plus the budget type. I hope I get to see it in person. "MELTDOWN DRAGS" July 20, 21 2013 at Byron Dragway Byron Ill. www.meltdowndrags.com
Congrats on a job well done. Certainly looks "period correct". Looks more like a $5000.00 paint job( probably is if you figured in your labor... ). Look forward to seeing it lettered up. Baron
