Thanks Mike, I'm addicted to working on it, not even sure if I'm going to the gasser series race at Empire today...lol
Very nice build. Looks like you are taking your time and doing it right! Good for you. Cheers..........
Geez Phill. How did I miss this?? Heard you got one. Good deal hope you can get it out soon. There is a J that a RSR member has picked up this spring. heard it needs a bunch of work. Should see the dude at the club race Wednesday... Will ask him if he has seen your link. Car looks great. Crunch time is here ,call if I can be of some help. see ya Luke
Im likin this deal for sure..... ony question I have is maybe the trans cooler looks like the first thing you see in the front, i have the same one but is under floor out of sight??/ just my 2 cents. the J front end is timeless with the big open here I am mouth on it... keep up the great work ... i have another one to do this winter more streetable like yours ....sam
Thanks everyone, to hear compliments and just general feedback is pretty cool. Luke I would put you to work if you were closer, but you might not like the working conditions of my garage..lol Sam I stuck that cooler up there to be seen, I don't have a moon tank or the likes so something has to go there. lol Actualy I have that canteen to use as the overflow that I'm going to try and put up front. I think the general shape will fit in the area where the hood is arched up front. I got my driveshaft today and installed that, then was side tracked by a broken motor mount in the t-bucket. I put solids ones back in there so that should take care of that. I ordered a master cylinder and that should be in tomorrow, so brake work will start with a bit of wiring to the starter. Got a question though about vaccume, there is only one port on these 450's. Will it work for the th350 trans modulator ?
Fired it up yesterday and broke the motor in, running hot for sure. I can't get anymore out of the distributor, hits tunnel ram, so I'm going to back the wires around one hole and try and tune it today. I put the slicks on and they stick out just right, was happy about that
Great job on this project. Really looks great. Anxious to here how it runs down the track! Cheers.....
Moving the plug wires didn't work so I sanded the window down on the distributor. I need to remark the balancer with the white paint, I couldn't even see the line..lol For now it was done by vaccume guage, but it's ALIVE ! ! ! ! ! !
IT's ALIVVEE!!!! Congrats Phil, cant wait to see it out this weekend. By the way, nice touch on the Bastards background music... haha
Good going Phill. Good for you. Are you going to try and make the Gold Cups?? As far as the garage goes. Shoot your is way nicer then my crap hole. Funny you brought up the vacuum Modulator thing. years ago when I messed with this. I ended up buying an aftermarket adjustable Modulator. It was a street car but had a decent cam in it , aftermarket convertor and beefed up T 350.. The vacuum was such that I had to mess a bit with the modulator. . It was easy as a hex (allen) wrench just slipped into vacuum tube fitting end. Just had wrench with me to slip in and adjust on road. after a few adjusts it was spot on for what it was. I had tried the dowel in the line trick with a few different size holes in them ( pushed into vacuum line). All they did is show me it needed tweaking. You manually shifting this most likely?? Another thing if you dont mind me saying. Make sure its Below throttle plate vacuum. Not ported vacuum. FWIW hope to see you this weekend, best to you Luke
Oh Phill: Thought of you when I saw this........... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=601216&highlight=dover&page=12 Scroll down about 1/3 way.....Post 228.....2nd photo.......gold trunk shot.... see ya LZ
on the 350 turbo, find a red stripe small can modulator at the local part store or trans supply and it will shift a tad higher and therefore stiffer for you ... get your vacum from the intake if possible or below the throttle plates on the carbs. also you may want to richen it up a bit over all too. t rams will cause hot and lean conditions sometimes, good luck , I like it
My buddy Bob just had to bring his timing light with the advance, so now we are in better shape. We set it at 32 degrees at 3000 rpm and it sounds way better, it was advanced in the video. Hope that cools it down some too, lots of bugs to chase as with any new deal. Steve (modelApunk) I figured you'd like that, your band and all rockin it out in the garage. Thanks for all the advice, I'll be out there this weekend racing or not, a few things left to do and the week is getting shorter.
First time out of the garage, I used the front wheel setup off my truck since the slots were dry rotted. I found out the king pins are far worse than I thought once I had jacked the car in the air too. That sure took the wind out of my sails to get it down the track but better safe than a pile of wadded up metal I guess. I have been busting my ass with lots of late late hours in the garage the past month to run this at the first Gold Cup race, really sucked to say the least. I took it to the track anyhow, put it across the scales and to my surprise it weighed 2360, much lighter than I expected ! It still needs tuned but I did goose it a couple times and it had no problem breaking the slicks loose but that front end was looser than those slicks. Here it is out in the day light and at the track where it belongs
Don't get down on yourself about the front end ... you've done way more than most in the time frame you set. Drag it back into the garage - fix the needed items & press on. Great job so far & you wayyyyyyy ahead of my rig!!! PACO
Yup that's the hose, after the king pin find I kinda said screw it and just went on to putting the sealed battery box in the back and putting in the gas pedal and linkage. The things it needed to be able to drive, I've got a polished canteen that will be the over flow catch can. I did let everyone know that looked at it if they seen something that needed addressed to let me know. More eyes the better, sometimes you get tunnel vision on certain things and overlook the obvious.
