Featured Customs FINALLY GOT HER!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by panheadsully, Aug 18, 2025 at 11:06 AM.

  1. Gents,
This is Sully from Oregon! I’m super excited and motivated about my new car! She’s a 51 Merc that yes needs a lot of work, but she’s in my garage!

The heavy lifting is done, motor tranny rebuilt, drives well! Rear window is Hanus and is the one of the first things I’m working on resolving. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Anyway, glad to be a member of this super cool forum! IMG_1115.jpeg IMG_1116.jpeg IMG_1118.jpeg IMG_1117.jpeg IMG_1119.jpeg

  2. Looks solid and the chop doesn't look bad, but that rear window has got to go! 50 Merc rear window works well.

  4. Find a rear window section from a donor

    I’d cruise it

    And large size them pics

I'll be the third to say a 50 rear widow looks the best on a 51.

Looks super cool, apart from the rear window. Sometimes I worry about being blunt and saying I don’t like something but sounds like we’ve got the same taste. It’s going to be a dream ride.

Nice car! I've always really liked the extended rear fenders on the '51's.

a 1950 Ford rear window may look good and a lot easier to find

  16. I bet the old window surround is still there.

  17. Welcome, congratulations!

  18. I might be in the minority, but I like a 51 back glass laid forward even when they’re chopped. From the looks of things it might still be lurking under all that bondo. But a 50 rear window would look great too.

    Nice car!

Yeah I’m honestly with you, I’m half and half on it. Could be better options but I’m not past it too.

  21. Congratulations, our car but that rear window doesn't fit the style of the car. HRP

I was trying to figure out what you were saying, then saw the pics. I believe the word you are looking for is Heinous!

It seems like the chop and rear window were done by two different people. The chop looks pretty good, the rear window looks pretty bad. Overall appears to be a great starting point

Had and built several chopped shoeboxes (never a merc though) I always just laid the rear window and some surrounding metal down .It just looks better in my opinion. Love it otherwise!

Also saw that and watched on BaT....Looks like the window surround for the '51 back glass might just be buried under all that bodywork in the last two pics. Congrats and welcome to the Mercury club!
