well after 18 months of waiting i have finally got my motor..... might not seem a big deal to you guys...but finding a 292 over here in oz is a bit of an ordeal... we did not get many of the "big" motors. i think it is a 64 model truck and the motor is a C2AE 60150 and a little while ago i found one of these which will be going on to that motor then all that will be going into the motor is a lowish mileage ....for now i have closed all the water orifices and filled it with citric acid because it has been sitting a loooooong time...that will clean the internal rust then when i pull it down i will check internal condition and rebuild accordingly. this will give the vicky a new lease on life as at the moment it only has a very tired old 272 in it. still collecting bits and pieces so when the time comes i will have everything at hand and it will be all go thanks for looking
That intake is probably at the top of Y-block rare collector items list They used to be known for their Stroker Kits as far back as the 50's your intake is probably a 50's or 60's piece. https://www.hotrodders.com/forum/speedomotive-crooks-227178.html
thanks fellas the manifold has been used at some time but for a very short time and is still like new have even got the original sticker....the guy i got it off has had it in a box for the past 30 years. fairlane62 i won't say there are no 312's over here....but better chance of finding a 20year old virgin. as stated the rebuild won't happen for a while due to other projects but in the mean time i am happy driving my vicky when i get the chance
Joe, it seems like every y-block over here is a 312, (when it's for sale). I saw a motor on Craigslist recently with truck front support and early three bolt carburetor claiming it was an original 1957 Fairlane 312. Likely a 272 or 256.
hey guys, had a bit of spare time today so dumped the citric acid out of the motor and must admit it came out cleaner than i expected, although still discolored so flushed it out and refilled it with fresh stuff. then i decided to see if it turned over,so i removed the plugs and they were very black, running pretty rich i would say,i then filled the bores with diesel and started turning it over with a socket on the balancer...no luck so tried the screwdriver on the ring gear and that got it moving...went back to balancer with a socket and breaker bar and spun the motor a few times...sounds like plenty of compression so i am pretty pleased with my "new" motor.... not surprised with the richness on the plugs as it has what looks like a 350 holley on it...not that they are a bad carb..prolly just badly adjusted. looking forward to when i get into the motor cheers
hi guys still have not started on my motor but am still collecting parts....some bling has just arrived. thats a pretty impressive shine remember this manifold well i have been sanding as time permites getting it ready for ceramic coating when the time comes....the rocker covers are made here in australia by the ybloke and he also has other styles to suit merc's lincoln and so on...also does a real good supercharger manifold for y's ...a top quality product for a fair price...no chinese ****
