I fabbed up some hinge brackets for the windshield. I used some stainless hinges and trimmed them way down, tacked some tabs on that would attach to the original brackets on the windshield frame .. Once I get it all tweaked , I will glue the hinges in place.. I did tack a piece of tubing on the hinges so I knew they were square. It's coming .. Slowly but surely

I would recommend welding the body-side of the hinge to the long tube, and gluing the whole length of the tube into the car. There is a lot of force on the windshield, especially if you have it opened up. I don't think the small area on those hinges is enough surface of glue to hold it into place.

That's the plan. I want to make an entire cross bar up there that is glued to the body and holds the hinges. the tube on there now it's just to keep em square

I clamped my hinges in the Bridgeport at work to countersink all the bolts. Soo Much better. And I also ordered special bolts and also stainless rod for my hood hinges . That all came In today.. Still more casting marks to smooth out on them.

  8. I will say that in the '50s most, if not all, of the magazines used the term "hot rod" to identify race or primarily-race cars and "street rod" for cars used primarily on the street. Like a lot of words and terms used today, the term "street rod" doesn't mean the same thing as it did 55 years ago.

im going through alot of work to make the best out of a glass car. i agree 100% that the should have a real windsheild. and it should lean out.. thats just the hot rod nature... ive been asked several times why i spend so much time making a glass car look real.. its still glass..
so i always tell em,, have you seen a lakes chopped steel 34 3 window for sale? do you have 30 grand?

im deciding on a paint color today.. i called chris blattie about getting my glass done.. so im sending him the entire windsheild frame and he can assemble it and put the seal on so i can jsut bolt it on when i get it back. i want to get it all painted and ready for him. he is also doing the side windows, so i gotta scrounge up some metal window channel for him to glue the glass onto. gotta fit the real 34 regulators.

    colors:
i still like the old porsch roadster color on russcos old model a coupe. only made in 1954-1955 Azure Blue # 5408. thats a great color. or i want it like the Dave Scroggs 98D 32 3 window that runs with the rolling bones.. its a burnt orange/red color. closest i have found to it is "Grenadier red orange " .. i havent tried to pry a piant code out of the bones yet. i may give em a call.. i know these two colors are total opposite but thats what i had in my head, it was those or black.. black is everywhere. eventhough it would be sick as hell on a chopped 34 lakes car.. i want somehting a little different.. so im needing opinons. thats the worst decision for me to make is the color... it has to be semi traditiona. no metallic or pearl.. just a good straight forward pure color.. and it will have 394 on the doors .

i plan on going with the typical black interior. mainly because it is dark and will make it like a cockpit inside.. we have a lady 5 miles from my house that is going to do it all. she does custom interior work.. so it will be just basic black door panels and a nice black leather seat, a recovered caravan seat with no brackets, mounted straight to the floor..
the more i sit in the car the more i get a feel for what i want/need for the inside.. the whole reason behind building the car is bonneville! so i want a semi comfortable ride since my wife is going also.. i could ride on plywood with 3 feet of pipe of the manifolds.. she is all about it other than a nice seat.. thats a must!

tonight i will continue the winsheild frame hinges and also get the mounts made up for the dash board. im waiting on my window crank to come. i traded a guy alot of welding and fab work on his 33, for alot of my parts. so its working out really well.

if i can round up a steel deck lid i wil lbe way ahead of the game.. i refuse to use the glass one. its terrible shaped and still needs all fit up and bonded together.
so im on the hunt for one of thsoe also. i called steves auto restoration.. $1345 for the entire decklid saltflat style. louvered and ready to go. .

    thats all for now..

Last night was productive. A few hours got the windshield hinge mount all installed , sill needs all smoothed out and bonded in but it's screwed in for now. Also I installed all the passenger side door hardware and hung the door. It took some work I get it to close nicely.. But a few small shims and it's good to go! I sill am waiting on my new striker bolts to be made. Time for windows and glue some outter doors on

Even Brian started "somewhere". Don't sell yourself short. Not only do you have great vision, but you get work done nicely AND quickly!

  15. There's always going to be someone better than you. Just the way life is. You seem to get quite a bit done in a short amount of time. I'd hire you.

A driveway full of hot rods gleaming in the low sun...move the Dodge out of the way and make it black & white...classic.

The inner structure is all done! Body mounts are all done. My buddy called me at 10pm to let me know he had a nice dodge caravan seat that will fit my car. So he brings it over and we blow all the crappy brackets of it, set it In the car and it's perfect! I'll have it re covered in black leather but the fit, the shape, size, everything is good. And it reclines also. Even better! With it sitting almost flat on the floor, I have a good range of view, but I will have to bend my shifter to sit back a little further.
That's tomorrow's project and get the front of the car bolted down tight. I also installed the window channel . Struggling a little with making the window templates perfect .. I want to get them exact for Chris to make me windows so I can glue these outter skins on. That will be major progress to me!

Also I was looking at Dave scroggs 32 3 window.. I love the color. I was searching around all day for paint.
    Colors

No clue what color i want still

  18. The car is looking good man! Its unusual to see a glass body with raked front posts and that heavy of a chop................. I like where you are going with this...... nice!

  19. Not sure if I got the color exact, but it's close (besides, tones change with different light):

That insane!! I could use your photoshop skill! Is that the first orange or the second? I love it. My windshield frame is gonna be painted also. Thank you for doing that color. That sure helps the decision .. also it needs a white 394 on the door!!! :)
    Below is the Porsche blue:

i tried a program called GIMP for changing colors.. i cant get it to work as well as what nitro brother did. it colors everything , chrome and all. . must not be doing it right

  28. I also use GIMP. You need to become VERY comfortable with layers. I couldn't get the color changer tool to work for me, either. What I do (and I don't know if this is the "right way" or not) is to use the point-to-point selection tool to outline the parts of the body I want to colorize, copy the selection to a new layer, then use the eraser or selection tool to remove the parts that shouldn't be colored, like the chrome, windows, etc. Then I use the Colorize tool on the "body" layer and play with the settings until I get what I want. I think you could probably do the same thing with the Selection tool, adding and subtracting bits that you don't want to change, but I like working with layers because you can duplicate them and Undo if you goof up. I Undo A Lot. I'm still struggling with making a flat-painted or primered surface look all nice and shiny, but the guys over on the Photoshop thread have been helping me with some techniques. Sometimes, like on your hood, I have to convert it to a grey scale and then colorize that. I also have difficulties with darker colors, which is why I'm still trying a way to get that Por-sha Azure Blue on your car.

Use the export tool to save it as a JPG (GIMP doesn't let you Save As like PaintShop Pro does) and you're set.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm not a real "talent" like the folk on the Photoshop or the Friday Art Show threads; I'm just a guy with a lot of time on my hands, being "between careers" at the moment.

    Sorry for the long "lecture"!
