Finally got the new rear widow frame glued in. Lots of fill work to do but it will work perfectly ! Once I get it smoothed into the window opening, I can use a flat plate of glass and sandwich it between the on window frame and a trim ring I made ,
I also primed the windshield frame because it kept turning brown every week

My metal glass channels finally came in from the all mighty wonderful macs antique auto!! And if you can't hear that sarcasm your def!
They claim a Tudor sedan and a 3 window are the same,... Flat chance. I called Dick Spadaro, he had to set me straight and give me a bunch of layout measurements so I can cut the brand new ones all apart to make them work. At this point I should have used a gm roller and channel and welded it to the original regulator, but I just can't do that kind if stuff. I want it right , my window channels are not designed to let te window roll back before down as a 34.would have, but I'm ok with that. I just removed the ear off the channel for that. I attached it to my templates for the glass and goes up and down like a champ . For someone using these metal glass changes out of the box!? It will never happen, terrible fit, they were spot welded together crooked and they were also stamped poorly.. I understand cheap parts but these were beyond cheap. They were junk!

And here is how much they changed .

And my buddy gave me NoS brake light switch for it. I like the mechanical ones better than the pressure switches . Just my opinion

I stuck the headlights back on. I located a set of early guides with aluminum wing stands on them , but I need to contact the owner and try to pry them off his wall . These will do for now. I just don't like the lenses.
It seems like a take a lot of photos of this car. Pictures are my motivation ..
I just noticed the photos that were posted from rolling bones garage night, it showed Richie whalens 33 3 window that they are doing, using a stock good and side panels , the car is top notch perfect! It makes me wish my roof was lower, probably 2 inches to look like his

It's almost time to trim door skins and get them all fit together. I got new door strikers today. Autozone, ford truck striker bolts. Perfect. They are .105 undersized compared to the original ones designed for the bare claw latches I am using. so I'm ordering brass sleeves to go over them just so the door doesn't have any way to rattle. I won't keep the outter guard on them. It makes a good spacer washer for now though

  7. I know what you mean about photos being motivation. I try and take lots of photos too. it's fun to go back and see where you began and how far you've come.

As for the strikers, instead of using brass, you can buy plastic ones too. Just thought the plastic might provide some vibration insulation. Either way, I know you'll get it all working perfect.

I get the whole "rather have steel than 'glass" thing, but all that really matters is your smile when you're behind the wheel. Will your smile be bigger in a steel car? I'd venture no, because YOU, with your two hands, sliced and diced this Tupperware body into the proportions and direction it needed to be. YOU did that.

Sure, you'd so the same with a steel car, but the end result only matters to the one behind the wheel. If someone doesn't like your Tupperware kit car (tongue in cheek) as them to see their Model 40 that they built with their own hands. Screw 'em and keep doing what you do. There is NO shame in what you're accomplishing and you don't need anyone else's approval. Carry on good sir.

I totally agree my friend! I finally scored a '34 5 Window that I begged an old man for, for 25 Freakin years! The whole bottom was rotted off by the time I got it! He's got another one, complete old Hot Rod, won't even talk about selling it! He's 80 yrs old, and has been diagnosed with Leukemia-Twice!! He also has 2, 34 Plymouth Coupes, complete, buildable Cars! Not For Sale!! Pisses me Off!!!

I know what and who you are talking about ;). But guys, retro61 has taken that beat body and done one hell of a job on it. It is turning into a head turner.

  17. Hey, if 'glass is good enough for builders like Magoo and Squeeze Jerger (did you see the feature of his 'glass rebuild in Street Rodder?) it should be good enough for us.

I have a glass car with steel fenders, running boards, hood & gas tank panel that I thoroughly enjoy - has all the other "street rod" goodies, too. I also have a few other later model on going projects. I have always wanted an all steel roadster with flathead, wide whites, etc, so I bit the bullet & paid the mans price for a car being restored as original & after a couple of years collecting a few more parts I realized I could never finish it myself (I'm 72 & my body is worn out) so I hired a young guy to finish it. Planning on driving it to Pomona in June. Couldn't afford to do it while raising a family in between wars. I have met guys (even have a few friends) that will not sell U anything but junk & they & I know it will still be there when they are put in the ground. When it's done, I'm cleaning out the garage & storage building & having a yard sale for the left overs. After that I'm going to finish what projects I can & drive one of them everyday I'm able & have fun. Recently sold the '55 after 13 years & my darlin wife didn't survive cancer long enough to see her "Ultra Pearl Violet" & red truck finished. Life is too short to worry about what the other guy says about what U drive!!

I hear ya on the rant. Daddio211 said it best. He is one of my big supporters. In the end when you hit the go pedal on the right the smile will be just as big in a glass car as it would in a steel car at a fraction of the cost. I too am taking my glass 34 tudor street rod and hot rodding it. It probably wont come out as good as yours but I can say I did it and it's mine.

Having a glass 34 too, it's easy for me to understand where ya coming from Ben. Hell, would love to have a steel car also, but mine was an 8yr budget build, only as I could afford things. Acquiring 1 in shit condition is still high dollar, but if that's the dream I fully understand. Like yourself, I tried to keep it real. Original grille, hood, windshield and gas tank. Ali deck skin so could louvre. Genuine 682's also. Just body and doors glass.
Refused to rechrome the rusty but straight grille, so rest of car built to suit. All legal now and having a ball.
Your screaming through your build and credit to ya. Looking fine, and I wont tell ya to ditch that front spreader bar, Yet.. Pete

EDIT: There was a big ol' rant above that got removed.

I think you are being impatient. How long have you been in this hobby? How long have you been searching for a steel body? If you answer under 5 years for the first, and under 1 year for the second, you're being a big crybaby. This stuff doesn't fall in your lap. You have to earn it.

    Do I sound pissed? :)

PS: You should have told me you were looking for a decklid. I just sold a decent one a couple months ago.
