Well I changed the gears from 2:73 to 3:55, changed heads to an old set of cast iron GT40's w/new valve springs and put a small cam in the roadster just for the HAMB drags, but I ended up deciding to stay home and take care of a bunch projects. I actually skipped a lot shows this year to catch up and clean house of all these parts cars I had sitting around.

I was ok with all that until today. A supplier from work rented the dragstrip closest to me (Milan Dragway) and it was only $12 to run, the track is about 45 miles away, and there easy on the rules when someone rents the track so I drove the roadster to work and went to the dragstrip after work today.

Last year the Roadster ran a best of 14.02 at 95 mph

Today the roadster ran a best of 12.83 at 106 mph I'm #14. I didn't try to change anything at the track except take off the air cleaner for the last run and doing a bigger burn out on the 2nd run which did get me my best 60 ft time. I was suprised it hooked as well as it did because this track is usually a slippery one and I was running Hurst 29x7 Cheaters.

So needless to say I'm happy the little 302 runs as well as it does, I'm happy
my garage and yard are now clean, and after the ride out to the strip today, on the great Detroit roads, my kidneys are happy I missed the 15 hour drive, but I'm bummed I didn't get to run the numbers at the HAMB drags.

  6. That sure fits the "Hot Rod" definition to me!!!

  7. Way to go Gus! That is a awesome improvement.

Kerry and Tman how did ya'll do at the HAMB drags this year? I'm in the same boat as Gus and had to miss alot of stuff this year so I'm out of touch with whats been happening.

  9. I knew it :D

Way to go man. I sure you had mad fun today though!

  10. Smitty, my touring suffered from not debugging it well with the new house project. I really dont have more than 4-500 miles on it. I ran a 14.91 at 87?mph as my best.

I know I have vacuum leaks and other issues, just wont have time to muck with them til this winter when I get the shop done.

  11. Best I could muster was a 13.96 @98.83. She's run a 13.42 before. There's still something that's not quite right since I blew the clutch last year.

12.8's at 105/106; that fits the definition of hot rod pretty well i think.

i hope i can do as well when the T is done.

Imagine if you could hook it up...

My Hellcamino runs right there with 1.75 60 foot times on good tires. I bet if you put some M/T ET Streets on that (or drag radials) and drop that 60 ft time you would be in the 12.50 range!

Then there is the nitrous... :)

Congrats, Gus. I always thought that little roadster had more in it. In fact, trust me on this, there's more left. I think you'd be amazed if you knew how fast/quick it could run. I'll do a little figuring and talk to you sometime.

    Later, Frank

There's a little bit more in this setup, but I really don't want to go much faster in this car with out some type of roll bar. The car ways under 2100 lbs with me in it and I figure the engine is making about 275hp max, so that's like under 220 at the rear wheels. Most of the et calculators say I should be going a little faster, but it's close enough for me. I may play with carb jetting later on and a different set of headers.

I've got other projects to finish, if I really want to go fast ;) .
