I got the first piece of pegboard up today and my plan changed. The space disappeared fast when I was testing it out. My plan was to only go to the top of the window but now it is to go all the way to the ceiling on all the walls. I'll have to use a ladder to reach some stuff but there is so much more room above the windows. I can hang the "someday" parts up there.:D It's 46" from the plywood behind the bench to the ceiling. 2 sheets will cover the wall behind the bench. I'll cut another small piece to fill in above today's piece.

I have made me several "v-belt" sticks like the parts stores used to use to reach some of the higher stuff. Then I put up less required stuff up there like coils of coper tube, push-pull cables, v-belts of course, coiled bandsaw blades, radiator hoses hung on a wire, and anything else that is somewhat lite. Do not skimp on furring strips, I've had several hangers pull through, leaving what was hung on the floor. You are doing great! Keep the motivation going!

Thanks for the ideas & encouragement! A lot of this started with hanging the things you mentioned up & out if the way. Most of it on nails driven into the studs. Some of it has been there 40+ years! At one point I had several boxes of the belt & hose hangers we used at CarQuest.
I want to get this done so we can get back on our wood projects. I need to put a neat package of our pictures, drawings, & measurements together and get it to my friend with the wood CNC machine before we all kick the bucket. There's been a lot of bucket kickers around here lately, most younger than me. :(

I understand about the bucket kickers, and it worries me also. I agree about getting back to our wood projects.
I am going to have to get busy if I am going to be ready to do wood again when you are. That photo of my shop that you liked a few days ago----It's a lot worse now!

I ripped and got more furring strips up & started measuring & cutting pegboard. I should have been more exacting with the first furring strips. I'm tryin to do as big of pieces as I can but cutting a lot away. Lots of measuring & cutting. It won't be pretty!

I got a couple more pieces up but as usual it didn't amount to just cutting them and putting them up. I decided to lose the light between the windows to get more hanging space. I never use them I have hanging fluorescents over the bench. I had to move the fire extinguisher again to hang the hedge trimmer & chain saw. I need another piece of pegboard since I decided to go to the ceiling. I found my electric hammer. Lousy pictures.

I got the other piece of that wall done. Lots of cuts and I did pretty well. I did a cut out so I could still use a plug above the windows. I got it just right but by the wrong window.
I hung some test stuff up to make sure it will stay put. I'm trying to decide whether to leave the cabinets where they are or move them and put more pegboard on the wall. That way I could have almost all of my most used hand tools on the wall and eliminate a tool box or two. One of the goals here is more floor space.

While thinking that over I started some sorting. I have 8 little chests of plastic drawers. Only a couple have all of their original drawers. Some drawers are empty some stuffed so full they are hard to open. I know what is in the drawers just not which drawer. There's 160 of them. Some are labeled but some labels don't match what is in them now. So, I started sorting them today and my bench disappeared. It will be better soon. Some of this will have to be sorted again when I get more done further into the shop. Stuff like ALL the bolts, nuts, screws, washers.......... 100_0631.JPG

I'm sure glad you got that hole just right! Above the wrong window is something I would do!
Sorting drawers is something that I keep putting off but know that it has to be done..... Good luck! When done you won't know what to do with yourself. Finding parts will go so fast!

I probably should have thrown it all away. Most hasn't been needed for years. But then with a 30 mile round trip to the hardware store, gas prices, and the danger of stopping at the bar a handful of screws could save the day.

Tim, I'm using a Kodak digital. It was doing a good job. Dirty?
Yes Larry, If I live long enough I'll use it all or at least that's what my dad said when he left me some of it.

Could have dust on the lense or a light sensor that’s helping it focus. Would explain why they got worse and more high contrast towards the end

A lot of the difference if brightness is me editing a poorly lit image. I had another one of these cameras that took really good pictures but I broke it. This one has not been as good but was better than this.

I didn't take any pictures today. I sorted all day and saw very little progress. I'm sure there was some.
Twin calves, That's worth a pair of gl***es. Bulls? Heffers? Or could you see well enough to tell? :D

Just in from the shop for today. I got a lot of sorting done though little shows. it is all moving forward though. I spent some time hanging things, not necessarily where it will be but it gets it up and off of other stuff and tests the strength of my pegboard job. It also lets me see what kind of hardware I need and how some of it works. I hung up some roadster engine parts so I can enjoy them and see some things I have gotten done. It also is helping clear the end of the ch***is table and protect the parts. Here's a couple of ****py pictures. I think my biggest problem in taking pictures is the light coming in the windows. I have to adjust from almost total darkness around the windows. I'll try to make some after the sun goes behind the hill. 100_0641.JPG 100_0639.JPG

I like your idea of hanging your engine parts, they look great! Picked up my new gl***es yesterday, now I understand what you were talking about!

I looked for one for a long time. Already had the tin one painted. There is an issue with the CLIFFORD letters. Someone ground down one side a bit. I'm thinking of having it polished to match the rest or maybe some creative paint.

Well, All the pegboard space is gone, gotta' find another wall. I know they are in there. The weather is nicer off and on so I may open the big door and make a couple of dump runs. I got the 8 plastic drawer chests down to the 4 smallest ones. Probably eliminated 100 drawers. Trying to think if I have any use for some of the drawers like for wire connectors in my rollaway drawers. I can almost see the ch***is table!

Sounds great! The draws are handy---if you have a place to put them.

A place to put them? That's the kind of thinking that got me here. :D I may throw the good ones in a trash bag until this process is over just incase I can use some. I am going to have to enlarge this to what can go in machine shed, what can go outside, and what just has to go. What will I ever use, what could someone else use, & how do I find them? If all this time & effort was used on the roadster I'd have a roller! :( I am nearing the point I mentioned a few pages back where some of the cleaning will be major component ***embly. That will feel better.
I do have a guy coming next week to pick up my big Dodge 413 flathead 6. It's going to the Montana Dodge Boys for their speedster, a good home. :)

No pictures but good progress today. I'm to the point where some of the organizing involves painting roadster parts and some ***embly. Yesterday I used up 7 old rattle cans and there was almost enough in one can to paint my torch cart. Today I painted the draft/oil filler tube & the cast part of the trans adapter. I ran the cords for the bench grinder & wire wheel under the edge of the bench and ran the cord from a gang socket bar in the front of the bench under the bench through a hole up to the socket. No cords cross the bench. Starting to see & feel some improvements, a long way to go.

Some work is part of this cleaning process, but I'll try to not let it get away. I see the danger.
Yesterday I was back helping my friends family deal with the mess he left them. As I walked past a paint cabinet there sat a partial can of Rust-oleum Sunburst Yellow, just enough to finish the torch cart! He's still looking out for me! :)
I grabbed some very rusty tools and parts to do a citric acid demo at the Inliners International convention in May and a cool Nevada license plate. I also confirmed that one of the trucks has a 261 Chevy six. There is a set of cast Fenton headers, an Ellis 2x1 & a Thickston 2x1 intakes and a set of exhaust cutouts for 216-261 chevy sixes. None of these are re-pops.
    Try to get pictures soon.
