Hoo-wee. When my mom (brother still does) did a tank-fill, we'd contract for it in early summer, iirc, co-op was helpful w/fairly accurate futures-costs, so we could lock in a price for a small downpayment, for a certain amt of fuel.. Didn't have to take it later, downpayment was applied to later purchase. Even if it would've been forfeited, it was so small that it wouldn't have mattered. Never did that, & always saved a great deal(sometimes half or a third of what the winter cost). It's just that we did a tankful, or the delivery charges killed you, & you had to anty-up the whole cost at once. Can't hurt to ask.
    Marcus...

Next step? ??? Either turn *on* the heat, or turn it *off* :D . Heat w/wood? Insulate, tighten air-leaks, etc? Move to where it's warmer? :D . (I wish... ;( ).

    Marcus...

    Oh, I know - trick Q: Get to work on the '26, & the Studes... :D .

That was $2.35 a gallon for 490 gallons and an $80 charge to check for leaks through the whole system because the tanks had been empty. That has never mattered before and won't happen again, but he did find a small leak outside. We heated with wood for over 40 years. The dust and ash started really bothering my wife so we switched. I may reinstall a wood heater in the basement. I can cut wood right here. Pinion pine is one of the best for heat & juniper smells good.
"Next" will be back to shop organizing and junk hauling. Need to get the frame back on the table before I forget why I started all this.

Congrats on getting the truck through! I feel like your building a hot rod in an era a couple decades to early!

Well, at least you're getting well-prepped for winter. Easier now, than later.

When we bought this place I was 27. When it was done enough to move in I was 35. That was over 43 years ago. I'm probably too old to be here now but I have lost all of my social skills and could not live near others. Don't want to hear their kids, dogs, or music. Motorcycles on the highway 4 miles away piss me off. Just have to get back to the shop and do some roadstering. If I can find it again.

GG2, I forgot to say this. The sheetmetal is loose along the S curve, nails gone, it should fit the wood.

Thanks Tom! I almost ground the outer corners off of #18 this morning, but have another brain fog from anesthesia and my wife also picked us up a great head cold!
I did a preliminary fit up this morning. Took some pushing and shoving, so not there yet. I am close enough that I got the rear top prop stud to start though. I have not gotten back to the side ways angle of #10's. #11's are at straight up and down now, so thinking that they will probably go out a degree or two. That will have to wait for full brain power!

Larry, I do. Stock. Mallory, big cap HEI...... What is your preference? What are you working toward?

Boyd, I'm still amazed at the difference of flat stuff on the frame and when it starts standing up. A woody?

I'm going to try a little bit today. I can pore piss out of my boot today, that is if I read the instructions on the bottom of the heal first! Yesterday was 'what boot'!
I started to replace a few of the clamps with small screws where I could try to see how the quarter panel fit. Well things started to go 'wonky'. #13l twisted #11l way out. I know that my washers on the truck pivots were interfering with #18s so I took them off and machined them all down to .95 dia. Now no interference there.

I now believe that the interface between #11, #13, and #14/15 is going to be most critical for the build.

I tried to put # 17 up but does not fit at all. (Of course, most of my time is spent setting in my chair looking at this!)
I noticed the top part of the backside of #15 was looking almost vertical, so pulled out my smart level. It is real close.
I am thinking that a triangle of plywood could be made to go from the top of the sill #1 to the backside of #15 to get that area in place. (The bottom of #12s (hooked to #15s) are located by the seat back support. #15s will rotate around this point.) (pulling my current #13s out and discarding them)

By going back to correctly locating #10s and #11s and screwing them on, this will dictate the front of #13s. (As I have been told several times from wood body restorers "Start at the front and work your way back, Repeat start at the front and work your way back!)
By building a jig to hold #15 vertical. Using the quarter panel, the hole for the second top prop hole to #11 will make sure that #15 is in the right place, then we can dictate the back end of #13.

    Hey, gg2;
Thanks for doc-ing this. While not specific to my stuff, the pattern(s) & thought(s) behind it help to visualize things, esp the occasional larger overall pics. So, I'm curious, &/or missed any comments relating to joinery. Since most old joinery was finger-joints(for both strength & economy of using small pieces of wood ???), how are you planning to join all the pieces? Or is this just a full-scale mock-up, & then a remake of all the parts w/f-j's? Not being funny, esp since wood & I don't get along all that well, & esp since I'm lousy at woodwork(I do appreciate what those can do well w/it accomplish).

Thanks Marcus! This is just the first mock-up with the first patterns that still fit. (except #13 and 17) I have bought a finger joint set. They are not as long as these old ones but is the longest that I have found that they use now. My final #18s (s curve) are finger jointed and waiting on this fit up to be finished. I believe that they can be made out of a 4 1/2 to 5 inch wide board. I am trying to use the same joinery as the first factory ones.
I will take more overall pictures in the future.

GG2, One step forward........ I'm wondering if it would be best to repair at least some of my pieces, like the #18s. They are solid but the ends look like the guy I got it from just pulled it apart when he moved it. The bottom of each one has a little missing the tops are there but split along the grain. I might just fix them and use them? I'll talk to my son Thanksgiving and pin down exactly what his friend can scan and show the cabinet maker your pictures, maybe some of my pieces. You have mire patients than me. I'm liking it.

Is Twisted, this is for someone else to use/run? I'd like to keep my stock one and the big cap HEI but I have a couple more. Let me check them out & I'll post pictures.

There is a box somewhere in the shop with a couple if extras HEI I think. I didn't see them last night but I know they are in there. I need to find my quarter panels to get measurements for Boyd too. Be back later.

Leroy came up today and we replaced 8 old solar panels with 4 new ones. Almost tripled the amperage from that array. Still not a lot of power but should help this winter. Slipped it in before the storm. Baby steps! :D

Replaced by 1/2 of panels and got 3 times the output. Sounds like a really good deal.
