just pulled a rebuilt 39 trans off the shelf. Just pulled the rear mount and clutch shaft out. I'm switching the rear mount and the clutch arm over to the 36 style so it will bolt in. Well at least I hope it will! I will post some pics pretty soon! the coupe is all vacuumed out and ready for the seat and gauges.

coupe & finger 003.JPG coupe & finger 003.JPG coupe & finger 006.JPG got the tranny cleaned and re-sealed plus a coat of paint. And while cleaning up the engine on a piece of plywood, I flipped the engine over and set it down a little too hard and too fast! I didn't get my finder out in time. The funny thing is, I didn't even know until the blood was running all over! Hurts pretty bad now while I'm typing! What's the white stuff inside your finger? Pretty sure its not broken! and it still moves okay! We will see what tomorrow brings!

That looks kinda deep, a stitch might be in order ..... it will heal faster. The white stuff might be bone ?
Betedine would be good to clean it.

coupe & finger 007.JPG I had a black laytex glove on, so no grease got into the cut. The clinic is closed and the hospital is a good hour away! I cleaned it good and just butterflied it up ! the worst thing is, all the cleaning was for not! the 99A merc had a huge crack in it, that I missed in the first visual inspection. I have another 59A that I know is good, so on to cleaning that one!

Good you had on the gloves..... bummer about the crack but at least you found it. A great mechanic ( gifted really ) that I shared a house with taught me how important visual inspectiona are.... just run your eyeballs over everything closely .... and don't take anything for granted... check it to be sure.

Question....does the back window roll down on your 36 ? I have a 36 with trunk and it rolls down and was wondering if they all rolled down. I knew they did on the rumble seat models.
    Again.... nice 36 you found.

Yeah, this is a trunk not a rumble and the rear window does roll down. I also think that this is a standard model, not completely sure, but it only has one tail light and no waterfall on the dash. But I'm not an expert on 35-36's either!
    does anybody know?

Fords of all years back then, were constantly updated as old Henry came up with new ideas, improvements, cost cutting ideas, etc., but below are a few items from the book, "1935-36 Ford Book", sold by the Early Ford V-8 Club of America.

-Standard model grilles were painted body color and the Deluxe models were chromed.

-Dual windshield wipers were standard on all cars after June, 1936 - before that, they were an option.

-'35 & early-'36 Standard models had no waterfall. Standard models came with only the one taillight

-Not stated in the book (at least that I could find), but I believe all coupes had the roll down rear windows.

35 / 36's are cool. I dig them because they were the last of the butterfly hoods.... so access is good to the engine and you can run hoodless easy if you want. 36 was the last year the headlights were on the fenders..... and the last year of the rag top roof incert. I think it was the last year the winshield cranked out too ? The 35 fenders were concave on the back side like the earlier years where the 36's are convex and getting more art deco looking like their headlights.

I like that you can still see the evolution from the earlier 30's cars...in the 35 / 36 .... and the V8 hood emblems with the Ford oval are killer on them...... you can see the V from the drivers seat on a 35 more where the 36's hoods rolled more and you can just see the tips of the V8.

    Cool Years.....

  25. VERY nice ol car Chris. Hope to see it on the run. Did you get a new truck?

I have a bunch of 35-36 stuff I'm taking to the swap meet in Spokane this weekend

Yeah, this is bucket list car for me! I would have rather had a 35, but this will definitely do! And I'm pretty sure that 39 was the last crank out windshield, my 38 sedan has one!

That's the plan Greg! I'm going to pressure wash it off tonight! I need to fix one of the valves though, kind of a burnt edge, but I think I can lap it back in.

  28. no sweat hand lapping a valve. old school!
