Well, we were trying to get this done by the beginning of the summer, but you know how it goes... At last we got this project rolled out the doors.

It's a 65 Ford Econoline 5 window pickup that was a real mess when we got it The former owner had all the pieces to make it whole again, but it was gonna be a long haul.

Heres some pics of how it looked today. Its not perfect, but we'll get a lot of use and a lot of fun out of it...

  4. You gotta wonder what the general public type soccer mom thinks when she sees some of us out from behind bars?!

Look great man, you turned that around pretty fast considering the Lakester build.

really great results! i have a 65' pickup that i thought was beyond hope but not now! those trucks always turn heads. first thing i did when i bought mine was rebuild the shift linkage, like night and day shifting.

  6. That's kinda like taking Hillary Clinton and making her look like Sarah Palin...awesome unbelieveable job! I love the econolines and love the whole look of the thing...too cool!

The truck was an amazing transformation, but some things are just impossible.

    Chaz,

    Looks fantastic!

I know you've probably answered this a hundred times but, how's the leg?

    Hope you're feeling better.

The leg still has some stiffness, but its nice that at my age SOMETHING does !
The doctor says it can take up to a year to start feeling good again. I'm able to get around fine and even walked about 10 miles a day through the pits at Bonneville this year. The Doc said all the hardware and screws will stay in my leg.
All in all I'm doing fine. Thanks for asking, I appreciate you thoughtfulness.

It looked like the thing must have hit a big animal.. maybe a moose, buffalo , gorilla or sumpin. The front was hopeless. We spliced on the front of a another van. Once we got it in the shop we realized there was a fair amount of rust. We replaced both rear corners, the lower 10 inches on each side and the center section of the front floor. Figgured we may as well get it all while we were at it. Probably the highest compliment we got was from the former owner. He's trying to buy it back from us.

This is a three speed, but here's the history on the four.... Midway through 63 a four speed (on the column) was offered. It was the Dagenham gearbox built by Ford of England. It was also used in some sportier falcons and comets in those years. If you ever run across one, I'd be interested.

  23. Man I'm going out on a limb here but if my memory serves me right the linkage was a bit of a issue and the rear ****** mount looked like an A-frame bushing as the ****** hung from the c-member. Haven't seen one in a long time but ya never know. I'll keep you in mind. Don't need any 170-cube cranks do ya?? I know a cat that has a few. LOL >>>>.

The old Ford looks swell Chuck! I'm sure John designed your logo, but who did the actual artwork on the truck?

That's fantastic, most guys wouldn't have even considered trying to rebuild it.

Speaking of Sarah Palin, here's a couple more reasons to like her :)
Saw this on our favorite auction site, item number 250291144071. Car was built by Perry's Rod & Custom in Wasilla Alaska.

Yeah John did the logo, same one for the shop, Chuck and Steve Aceguy on here did the painting on the truck. I think Steve did the guy by hisself tho, and did a great job.
