    Hello all,
I haven't posted in quite a while. Life has changed quite a bit for me since I made the move to Colorado, for the better of course... Well anyway I will get to the gist of this post. I have had my station wagon in storage in Cali since I've moved and haven't been able to touch it. Well this is changing, I will be bringing my wagon back with me to Colorado this summer and will be tearing into it hard core next school year. I'm stoked because this car will finally get the attention it deserves. I've had this car since high school and it has always been put on the backburner for some reason. Well now that I've the time and some capital to do it, its on... I will be taking photos and posting the progress throughout. It will be awesome. I had to post because I'm getting really stoked and wanted to let the group know. Thanks for listening, take care all.

I know you wrote me and told me about your moving and having to put a hold on the wagon . I am really glad to hear you got everything into place with the job and moving and now you will be able to get started on the wagon build .
Hope to see some pictures and post what your planes will be with the wagon . I am partial to wagon myself too and really lover them . You can do so much more with a wagon than a car .

I still want you to build me the front cross member for me when you will be getting back to building them again to sell . No rush right now but when you are going to do them again , Please let us all know . I am sure there are many that didn't know of the great high quality ones you built before !
So keep me in mind when you are ready to built them again .

    Jim

Well it should be an interesting build. I hope to get quite a bit done by summer of 12'. Plans call for a complete air bag suspension, with a trailing arm setup using 64' Chevy truck arms. I know Chevy parts, but I already got em' for nothin'. My 292 with an AOD. And a very pertty paint job. I'm gonna keep the color scheme under wraps until the time comes. Everything will be done by my students and I other than the chrome and some of the interior pieces, and I mean everything...
I can still build the crossmembers starting sometime in September for anyone interested.

Hey chalupa can you tell me how you got the aod to mount to your 292? Would be appreciated. Thank you, rocky.

Using duct tape and bubble gum... J/K lol...I will be using a adapter similar to the one made by Bendtsten. The school I work at has a machine shop and instructor that are capable of making just about anything, and I'm confident in saying this as they are currently working on a project with NASA. This should save me quite a bit of capital over purchasing elsewhere.

You can go to www.transmissioncenter.com look under the AOD section as they carry the adapter kit from AOD to Y-block there is a good picture of one there, the scary part is you can buy a 5.0 & AOD for what these kits sell for alone.

Ouch, yeah, I'll keep my 3 speed for now then. I just really dont want to get rid of the y block anytime soon. My brother has a c4 or c6 (we havent run the numbers) that he isnt going to use. I thought about getting the adapter kit from Mummerts. Not trying to hi-jack your thread Chalupa, my bad.

I think most here know my opinion on keeping a y-block in these cars. Dragonknucks I'm not sure if you know, but in order to run a C6 you would need a similar adapter as you would for an AOD as the bellhousing is not removable like the C4. If it were me I would go for the AOD conversion I believe it would be better in the long run. Just my .02 .

I take it you are an advocate of keeping the y blocks?

Here's a source for a Y-block to C4 transmission adapter: http://www.flat-o.com/carproducts/yblock.htm. If I were putting an automatic behind a Y-block, I'd go with the C4 instead of the AOD. With a 3.0 rear gear this would be a very driveable combination. Not all high-tech, but basic, simple and durable.

I'm a big time advocate. Don't get me wrong the sbf is a great engine, but visually to me they aren't a good fit. And the y-block may not have the bang for the buck, but as far as reliability I believe they're right there with anything out there.

I agree that the Yblock is a good engine, thereason I'm going with a sbf is this car is going to be driven 20,000 miles/year, and just try to find parts for these at Pep boys, Autozone, Napa or most other parts suppliers. If you break down, be prepaired to spend a couple of days waitng for parts.

To each their own. I personally have never been let down by any of my y-blocks. Either way I'm excited about gettin' going on my hoopty... Should be a fun build.
