Makes me think of the old addage, " The people that keep saying something is impossible just annoy the crap out of the folks doing it."

And one of my favorites, "What the mind can concieve and believe, it can achieve."

Just proves that most of our obstacles are between our ears.

Proud to be breathin' the same air as you.

wow....you epitomize the irrepressible human spirit....right on..!!!!
how about making a handrest/ feeder out of a ball bering drawar slide...I guess it depends on your actual mobility...with it mounted stationary you might articulate by bending or twisting ....you are an inspiration..stay on here and eventually something will evolve......

I admire your courage and determination.... I have a son that is disabled and I know how hard it can be for him to do things.... you are a great roll model... wish I lived closer to you it would be an honor to work in your garage..... keep up the positive attitude and may God bless you....

You remind me that every day is a gift. Some days the gift is a neatly wrapped diamond and others it's a brown bag full of poop. You've had more than your share of poop days so I hope you have more diamond days in the future.
I think CaddyDave is on the right track. That slide is found in the McMaster-Carr 3,500+ page catalog with 480,000 cool items:
    http://www.mcmaster.com/#
The wire feeding setup also looks like what you're looking for.

As Dave says, it's spendy but you have two options that may cut the cost.

    1) Write to the company and tell them why you want to try their system. They may send you a system on a trial basis or donate it to you. When I lost my arm back in the 60's I found a company that made a single lever hydraulic brake system for bicycle calipers -- wrote to the Williams Brake Co. and inquired about the price. Owner sent a system as a gift.

    2) You've got a great healthcare system in New Zealand so why not contact the Ministry of Health and see if they will fund the equipment you need. According to the website, you don't want to buy it yourself because they won't refund your out-of-pocket cost if you buy it first. The Ministry of Health can turn you down but you won't know if you don't ask. According to the site:
Contact Accessable, if you live in Auckland or Northland
    Call Free: 0508 001 002
    Fax: 09 620 1702
    Email: info@accessable.co.nz

Enable New Zealand, if you live throughout the rest of New Zealand
    Call Free: 0800 17 1995
    Fax: 06 353 5876
    Email: info@enable.co.nz

  12. WOW still so many awesome sugestions, let me try answer you guys.. here goes.

This is awesome, i wonderr if it requires any more input than simply setup and go, so to speek.

This is exactly what i had in mind, i might be able to use the stiff, but bendable neck off one of those free standing lamps or something similar to mount it.

    Cheers monster

Looks lets be honnest, i am down, and im not super motivated. I just love my cars, love fabrication, and its all i realy wana do. There are more inspiring, disabled people in sports... i hate sports haha.

This is what im thinking, only i cannot "squeeze" so its need some other feed ability, might use 1.2mm mig wire.. any way cheers, more food for thought.

    Wellington mate. Yourself?

Yes we do, cheers man. there is the posibility of them hooking me up, ill just have to spin my magic.

Thanks to all of you again.

  13. Here is my first weld, what a joke haha. keep in mind tho i had the torch taped to one hand, the wire taped to the other, and my hand kept getting stuck, i was bouncing all over the place.

And I DO NOT want to hear "thats better than i can do" crap coz, this sucks haha.

I'm in California, but I have been to Wellington with my roadster. Seems like everything is on a hill there....

I ask because some of the most resourceful hot rodders I know are in NZ, and I'm sure that between ya'll this little issue can overcome. I will PM you with the contact info of a friend of mine that might be able to offer some sound advice/ideas. He's in Pukehoe.

Good luck and post some pics of your projects from time to time. Maybe we'll get to meet you next time I'm down that way - next year or so.

  16. Okay no crap mate, but for your first try, come on, don't beat yourself up. Remember that it's a pretty steep learning curve that your on. No crap , that really looks better than i thought it would. With time will come what your after and i'm guessing your pretty damn picky about what you did/do. Keep up the good work.

For a first weld and trying to figure out how to get wire feed under control I am impressed. Looks to me like you will be making some quality welds again soon.

Don't get me wrong but you ARE way too hard on yourself !!! And I ain't blowin' smoke!!!! You act like that weld is something to be embarrassed about - Are you kiddin' me??? I see LOTS of guys who still can't weld that good!!

OTOH I understand you wanting to achieve perfection & I think you're definitely well on your way!!!! Keep at it - I have no doubt that you'll get there!!!

You're definitely a No Excuses Guy - and that THERE'S a Hot Rod Builder I can admire - keep it up!!!

Dont be so hard on yourself. If you were able bodied, and had not picked up a tourch in 3 years, you wouldn't have done any better. I've seen guy's that call them self's "pro's" do alot worse. It will come with time. and lets face it, it's all we got. I find with my handicap, is the damn chair is in the way all the time. LOL

I know better than to believe that!!!:D

Seriously, though, nice work. I'm sure you can figure something out and maybe benefit a whole bunch of folks with your ingenuity! I'm wondering if you could rig up something like a mini-MIG feeder that you could drive with elbow pressure or something. There's got to be a way to combine Littleman's suggestion with a couple of mini motors...Maybe just enough that you could use a few inches of wire at a time with it.

  22. I have always liked the phrase "where there is a will..there is a way", which really hits home with your thread. It just goes to show, that our strongest asset, is our brain. Keep positive..no doubt in my mind you will sort it all out. By the way, you are being modest, that weld is very useful.

  24. And I'll quit bitching about my middle-age aches and pains!!

(Did I mention I'll also quit getting frustrated about the welds on my first little project.
Yours are far better than my best!)

  29. Haha yeah i was pretty excited to get into it so i taped it back to my gloves and tried welding on the chassis. Needless to say it was a bit soon, but, i finnaly got to work on my own instead of just watching. Tho i am gratefull for all the effort that has gone into it.
