I've been building Rides for over 40 years, and I've never bought anything for $6k that drove for any length of time!
    Best of luck.

  2. Sad to say $6k doesn't get you much these days.

I kind of gave up for awhile and that one from Columbus is actually in another state, thinking about doing the body on my 65 custom 500 4 door or put a smaller motor in my 66 F100 along with a bed cover and not buy another vehicle.

Going to pull the 70 302 from my custom 500 more door and drop it in the 66 F100 along with a 3 speed and the 460 that is in the 66 will be traded for a 302 with a mild cam that will go in the custom 500 along with my toploader 4 speed. Going to do the body work on the custom 500 and get it a Maaco paint job and drive them both while finishing the 55 sunliner, now this can all change if something falls in my lap cheap that does not need much to get going but I doubt that will happen. The days of finding a reasonably priced decent old car are over so unless that miracle find shows up I will fix what I have and use the money I was going to spend on another car and get me the bigger motorcycle I have been wanting and that too might not be easy to find since I have not seen too many deals on them too.

For every car that is listed on one of the many sites there are 2 or 3 of them. just siting behind a barn or even in the barn with the owners saying to his wife, over dinner. Before we move to FL we need to get rid of that car. The prices will come down, only if you guys stop paying the high prices.

If you don’t mind traveling look at kijiji
Canada ( like Craig’s list but better)

Lots of decent cars good solid drivers for under 10.

  13. Yep.... Find a '65 vette that way

I agree that if you just want a driver one should expand to a 4 door. There is a really nice 56 Chevy Bel Air 4 door close by for sale. Car is super solid and nearly all original. 5K. If the money shows up for his truck Saturday my buddy is going to buy it.

If it was a 2 door it would likely be priced three times higher.

Gotta go with the pro 4 door guys. I was watching Craigs list for Buicks a few years back and there was a 55 Special 4 door on there for a month or more for $1900.00. Looked really solid so I called the guy and ask about it. He said his kids bought it for him as a retirement project. The problem was he is not a car guy and had no interest in it at all. He told me it had come from Arizona to Ohio in 1978 and had been in a warehouse until 2014 when his son bought it at a estate sale. He said all he knew about it was the engine was not stuck and some one must have been buying NOS chrome pieces with the hopes of restoring it. I went to check it out and he was right, it had almost every piece of chrome, including both bumpers(NOS in Buick boxes) loaded in the trunk and interior. Car is solid as can be with some surface rust, interior is very decent and everything was there except the wheel covers! I bought it for $1200.00, got it home and changed oil and filter and had it running with in 1/2 hour. They are still out there, just few and far between. I was looking for a 2 door just like every one else but its like my Dad always said "Poor people have poor ways" The bonus with this car for me was my first car was a car just like this one that was handed down to me from my Dad in 1966 that he had bought new and I had grown up with. Good luck with your search!!

Once I get started putting a smaller motor in the F100 something will come along that I can not pass up but the plans are to get it where I can afford to drive it farther then around town and then work on the custom 500 and then the sunliner can come off the road to be finished, there is no need to buy another but I do like to get something new to me every now and then but I am really wanting a Harley bagger since my Superglide is not really comfortable for me to ride on long trips so a new bike might be the something new this time. We will see how long this plan lasts.

If I could find a custom 500 4 door with a rust free body it would save a bunch of time and just transfer the disc brakes and manual trans from mine.

I see you are from Ohio, part of the rust belt as I in Wisconsin, guessing you are looking for a southwest car or anywhere road salt was/is not used. The positive of your search is mid 50's Fords were sold in big numbers, has to be one out there. Good Luck on your quest ! Patience !

I didn't figure this out until after I bought my car, but facebook has lots of hot rod, classic car for sale groups and it seems more often then not there is a deal of a life time.

2 doors are cool. 4 doors is where life happened.
Never begrudged a 4 door. The workins are usually the same anyway.

I am looking on the Facebook groups too but still have not found anything yet, after my trip to Louisville to look at a 61 Fairlane when it snowed and all the people who could not drive I really do not want to haul one home in this weather and might postpone looking until the weather stays above freezing.
