This photo has been posted to HAMB before; last time was in 2017. I'm hoping to see if anyone knows who has an original scan (or actual print)? The 4-11s were a West L.A. group that Jimmy Ige (drag racer from the 1960s-70s) belonged to as a teenager at University High School in West L.A. This photo was taken from a meeting between L.A. car clubs and the police to discuss how to deal with street racing and its safety concerns. I did try contacting the LAPD Museum to see if this image originated with them but no dice. I know the image was posted to the Car Plaques website but I contacted the owner of the site and he doesn't know who uploaded it there. Reverse image search of the image leads me back to that site or here. Figured the HAMB was a good place to ask though!
I don't know whos's in the photo, but I did see this thread where Sal Mineo was actually an honorary member of the Kerb Krushers. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...rary-member-kurb-krushers-la-1959-pic.589221/
I wonder what was being discussed at that particular moment...the guy in the middle of the front row appears to be disagreeing with the fellows from the four-elevens.
I've had two people contact me about the Kerb Krushers plaque on my website. One said "I was, and still am a member of the Kerb Krushers. Most of us still keep in touch and I know the location of almost all the members. I would love to hear from any members we haven't been able to find. We had a reunion in 2002 in Marina del Rey, and it was a great success. This celebrated 50 years of the club. There were two other car clubs that were active in WLA in the '50s. The SPOOKS and the TRUCKERS. The Spooks almost all went to UNIHI and the Truckers started in about 1956 and were mostly 50s Ford and Chevy trucks. They hung around Roberts drive inn @ Pico and Sepulveda where the Kerb Krushers did also." The other one said "The Kerb Krushers was somewhat of a Who’s Who, with Joe Mondello, Stan Goldstein and a few others who were of some note in racing. I was working for Ed Pink in 1960. Recently the “official” Kerb Krushers photo album showed up. I hope to borrow it and put it on a CD for distribution. Somewhere I have a picture of Sal Mineo and the 49 Merc from Rebel Without a Cause at my dads station. He was an “Honorary” member” of the KK. Came to one meeting."
Thanks for sharing this! Any chance you can put me in touch with that person who's seen the photo album? I'm wondering if this image is part of it. Thanks!
