No, not "how to find your old car"! After seeing HOTRODPRIMER's post about seeing his car, and how good it looked, how many times does this happen? Have you, years later, found your old car up for sale, or in a car show and marveled how goo (or bad) it looked? Tell us! Here's my story. I started building this 54 Chevy for a very good friend, Joe Spezio, who was give it, by his uncle. I worked with him at E**on's Research lab, and he was a mechanic, and wanted to learn restoration/bodywork/paint. We bought a 1980 Monte Carlo as a donor car, and used it's engine, trans and rear, as well as it's front frame, radiator, wiper system, steering column, as much as we could, since the car was a stripped out hulk. AND it was a very low budget build. We got pretty far along with it, but then Joe got married, and had to give up his toys (a Sportster and 66 Grand Prix, as well as the 54). The 54 sat, until I decided it had too much work done to it, to abandon it. Bought it from him, for the money he put out, fixing it up. Got it running, body finished as a mild custom, upholstered, painted, rechromed, etc. Dorve it for 4-5 years, until I needed to sell it to complete building the new pole barn/shop behind my new house. Joe had suddenly p***ed away, just before I finished it, and never got to see it completely. A couple days ago, a friend sent me a link on Facebook Marketplace , of the car for sale. The new owner(s), in the last 23 years, added their own "custom" touches to it. At least the paint and upholstery has held up very well! I'm sure you can tell where MY version, and the new version differ!
Hopefully the adhesive on the back of the decals could be dissolved and not harm the paint. Then it's just removing a few dime-store sparklies from the engine and you are right back where it should be.
Great looking car. 2nd pic is cl***y, the new owner additions just cheesed it up. Very cool you found it, even if you may or may not want it back. There's a few of my former cars, I would be interested to see how they survived, or changed. Don't really want any of them back
Not to hi-jack the thread...but it does say "FINDING YOUR OLD CAR" 8-10 years ago, I ran this ad on a bunch of East Coast Craiglists...a few leads...but never found it. Still a long shot...but any HAMBers in that area able to help? Looking for my old car 1948 Chev coupe, last sold Waverly NY, now in Scranton/ Wilkes Barre, Pa. area. HELP I'm looking for my old 1948 Chevy Coupe hot rod I build back in the early '70s. (see pics) From what I understand, it may just be a beat up old parts car now...but I still want it. HERE”S WHAT I KNOW. A couple of years ago, the last known owner, John Tracy, Waverly NY sold 2 Chevy Coupes, a 1947 black one and my old copper colored 1948 . He doesn't remember the name of the buyer but said he was an “Older Gentleman who owned large recycling business in the Scranton-Wilkes barre Pa. area”. He also said the gentleman planned on restoring the black car. My old car was to be the parts car HERES WHAT I'M HOPING FOR A) The gentleman who bought the 2 Chevys sees this and contacts me. B) Someone who knows this gentleman who bought 2 Chevys sees this ad and contacts me. C) Finally, anybody who may know an older gentleman, who owns a recycling business AND who restores old cars for a hobby...any lead would help...please contact me. (a google search of recyclers in the Scranton/WilkesB area comes up with about 70 hits...maybe someone can help narrow my search down...) WHY I NEED TO FIND THIS CAR. I have been a member of the Triple Cities Street Rods for over 40 years and have built quite a few cars over the years (currently have a 1932 Ford Sedan Delivery). I'm getting older and feel I have ONE MORE build left in me. How cool would it be if the LAST hot rod I build, was also the FIRST hot rod I built? Thanks for taking the time to read my ramblings. Hope you can help. Jack It probably looks similar to this now.
I was just having this conversation last night with a friend. He recently tripped across an old pickup of mine for sale. It was in pretty poor shape overall with no motor or transmission and some **** roller wheels. However, it still had the same red primer and flames on it that I did years ago. Had lots of good memories in that old pickup, but pretty sure the guy trying to sell it is on crack as much as he is asking for it even though it did come with a late model truck to be a donor for that new Chevy motor that none of us here like.
