Well I finally got my flathead back onto the road again after a wet and soggy PNW winter. I installed new red plug wires with stainless looms (Flathead Jack). I also installed new coolant runners ($11 chrome exhaust tips) w/ restrictor plugs (fender washers w/ 5/8" holes) and rebuilt my Holley 94s again to stop them from weeping fuel. All last summer I had a slight miss that I could not resolve. I changed the coil, plugs & points....didn't help, & my 6V tach was also reading eratically. She now runs smoothly and the tach works great. When I was installing & assembling the new plug wires I noticed that one of the old plug wire tips was not crimped tightly. Ah!!!! Jeez....do I feel sheepish. I guess I now have a V8 instead of a V7.5! I also dumped my pretty red fuel lines and went with the much safer black rubber lines. Not as cool, but at least I don't have to worry about the new lines cracking and BBQing my flatty. We rebuilt my rear end w/ new axles and changed her over to a 3:78 ring & pinnion. We also installed a new second gear cluster and shimmed my '39 tranny. It is nice not to have the tranny pop out of gear under load and to be able to cruise at 65 down the hwy. I'm pumped for the drive down to Billetproof this summer. Hell, I might ever be able to run better than 20 seconds in the qtr mile this year at Woodburn dragstrip.
Looks great. Could I have some more pics?. Wonder what steering box your running because you don't seem to have the interference at the exhaust. How does the alt. work out? Do you have a fan on it or are you running electric? All things that I am considering for my car. Thanks
I'm running a stock '35 steering box & a set of Red's headers. They sit in real tight against the block to avoid steering box contact. I'm also running a generator w/ a fan. I did not have room to run the stock 59A crank driven fan (it would have been too low anyway).
