been busy the last couple of days.took the inner wings to be blasted, nice job donnacha.then with all the rust gone they could be repaired/weld up a few cracks.gave them a coat of etch primer today to .keep surface rust at bay.the inner wings are still flexible ive plans to add some rubber mounts and some bracing to improve things.im not sure whats missing where the inner wings meet the rad surround.there are three mounting holes on the inner wings but no corresponding mountings on the rad surround .anyone know whats missing, see the pics

moving along on the inner wings inner wings with brace 003.JPG inner wings with brace 004.JPG

added a brace to the leading piece of the inner wing to add some strength.i had a cluster of small cracks near the front, there was a lot of welding to fix so I cut a circle out.drilled with a step drill and got a bushing made to suit.stuck that in with a very strong two-pac glue.wasnt sure how to deal with the junction of the inner wing and the rad surround.the plan now is to bolt on a rubber strip either side of the inner wing with a lite stainless plate.this will give a flexible junction.need two more lazer cut but next with square holes so I can use stainless coach bolts.none of this will be seen under the wings

I got two more stainless strips cut for inside the inner wings.this time with 3 square holes so I can use stainless coach bolts .stuck the coach bolts in with two pac adhesive.painted the inner wings, needs one final coat of gloss black to finish . black whee inner wing etc 002.JPG .used gloss because I thought it would offer better protection against the weather, and will not be seen

Picked up my rebuilt 9 yesterday - put tires on it and rolled it in the shop - hoping to get the rear leafs and brackets and install next week end - feels good when you're doing something other than just looking at it !

floor primed 002.JPG floor primed and gear boot 002.JPG floor primed and gear boot 001.JPG not much to report for this week.i had done some work to the floor.it was battered /out of shape and had a couple of cracks needing welding..i used inch x inch box split in half to stiffen up the floor.olso there was a circular hole hacked out of the floor ,right on the rib weakening it considerably.tidied the hole and made a circular cover.also made a cover over the rectangular hole.got the 1/2 x 1 inch u channel welded in riveted the covers on and had it blasted.painted and undersealed.big problem it never dried properly.

last week I started stripping the mess.scrope it washed it sanded it eventually got it all off and sanded it the best I could.didnt like the rivets so I replaced them with m5 countersunk nuts/bolts stainless.primed with etch primer.its dry nowready for the painter to finish.i had bought a lokarshifter boot.i thought the ring was a little small looking so I got another 2 lazer cut tapped the holes in one m5 and drilled the other to 6mm.bonded one to the underneath of the cover no fiddling there now with nuts and bolts.i used plenty of bolts on the covers to pull the floor straight.

I really liked the original handbrake.im keeping it and intend to have it working again have a lokar handbrake boot need to get a bracket laser cut to suit so I can fit the lot.

months ago I drilled the firewall to mount the gas pedal..didn't get the position right first time but I couldn't keep drilling until I got it right ,so I made up an adjustable plate (4mm thick ) for the firewall using the two holes to mount it.got it laser cut this week and tapped the holes to 1/4 unc so I could use somedomed slot head screws that came off the truck. holes are at 12.5mm centre to centre.if I can find a suitable return spring ill use one and amend the bracket.ive also included an adjustable stop .im thinking of changing the spoon sized pedal for a longer one of a similar design adjustable gas pedal mount1 004.JPG if the cab was a little longer positioning the pedal wouldn't be that critical

staying in the cab .took the dash out to mount the fuse box and paint up some bits.fix some potential leaks.i will have to modify the cowl vent lever to keep it working.after deciding where to put the fuse box I designed a plate to hold it.gave it a trial run today.mounted it with two Harley rubber mounts.will get it laser cut in 2mm stainless when the design is finalized. MOUNTING FUSEBOX 004.JPG MOUNTING FUSEBOX 002.JPG MOUNTING FUSEBOX 005.JPG
I will fine tune this bracket before it gets cut

handbrake gaiter 001.JPG handbrake gaiter 002.JPG dropped the fuse box bkt to be laser cut collected some pieces for the handbrake , one piece in 2mm one in 4mm.the 4mm piece felt heavy so I drilled some 3/8 holes in it .should have had them burnt out ,would have saved a lot os work. . countersunk some bolts and tapped out some threads.i had only one m5 countersunk bolt so off to the suppliers tomorrow for some more.be painting the lot satin black .

staying under dash cut down some 80x80 alloy and drilled it to make a duct to run the wiring in. left to right underdash from the fuse box. underdash wiring 001.JPG
smaller holes for tie wraps inside or out bigger holes to access wires.
