total cost 0$ made what i didnt have.a true rod.

  5. It does look good, don't get me wrong... but that's a lot of firetruck. What are you doing with all of it?

  6. Hell man, I'm sure you could have sold that old firetruck to a collector and built yourself a nice A coupe on the proceeds!
Either way its a cool looking ride you got going on there!

you mean to tell me that in the missifuckinsippi there are no more truck cabs to build your HOT ROD out of?

that sucks what you did to that firetruck

  8. So what you really have is another in the weeds pickup with a tractor grille and the letters OKOLONA FIRE DEPT. on the door. That sure will turn a lot of heads. If i remember correctly a nice shinny big red vintage old fire engine in a parade allways gets the applause.

  9. That firetruck would have looked good chopped, dropped, & about 3' taken out of the bed.

Good luck with your project. Looks like you've made huge progress so far.

I like the truck- but you never should have showed us what you started with! That truck could have been built with something besides that Fire Truck IMO. Too late now, and you can do what you want. And I even understand that everybody talks a good game about saving something but never step up, so who knows you may have been stuck with a firetruck if you showed it beforehand :D

But, come on, admit it would have been much more unique, and possibly cooler, had you done this:

drop it, chop it, shorten it, put a big block in it, throw a huge beer tank in the bed and you could make some bucks at the car shows. Or fill it with water for wet T-Shirt contests?

At least you made a reasonable effort to get it in the hands of someone who might want to restore it before cutting it up, and the parts will go to saving another one. No matter what it is, you can't save all of them!

I've always leaned toward some other suggestions here -- basically make a pickup or car hauler from an old frie truck. Unfortunately old fire trucks just aren't very practical restored. A few towns have them for parades, and a few collectors with lots of room, but that's about it. Even if restored and/or modernized it can't really be used by towns either. Local insurance rates and small FD ratings are based on equipment age, and even a "remanufactured" fire truck reduces ratings and could increase insurance rates in small towns/areas. That's why they can be found in pretty darned good shape and cheap. Takes a lot of work to make something else out of it too!

  15. i like it.. nice work.. could you post more detail of your batwing setup? Is that the original axle or a 40's, 50's Chevy piece?

DOn't worry about all the hating on here.. Better you did that with the old truck than it be let to rot in some field. and yes.. the world does need more in-the-weeds pickups!

    Keep up the good work.

  16. Wow, that is one cool ass project. I can't imagine the money it would have taken to restore a firetruck and have something you weren't excited about and couldn't recoup your investment. At least this way the spare parts went to save other firetrucks and you built a cool ride.

It would be kinda cool to take it on step further and make your rod look like the fire truck, use the siren and some of the other bits and pieces to make it look like the fire truck gone bad, Ya know like those guys with that dumbass bike show did but cooler.

Yeah, you're right. I'd rather see it gathering dust in someone's collection where nobody can see it.

What makes a firetruck more valuable than any other vehicle we cut up and hot rod? Don't give me the sentimental shit about all the runs it went on and the lives it saved. I understand and respect that, but judging by the pictures, it looked like it needed a wee bit of attention.

Support the guy. You don't like it, bite your tongue.

    I dig it.

My neighbor behind me has 1926 White fire truck, all complete, just been sitting in front of his shop waiting, since I moved here in 98.

It has a Continental 6 Cyl that tops out at 45, all complete air in tires, came from the city of Baldwin Fla. he is retired Lt. from City of Jacksonville FD so he had to get it. He offered it to me but I dont have the space or time to mess with it. I was thinking a Cummins transfusion would be in order.

PM me if interested, I can get a pic thru the fence.
