@Hildy56 Hello, Well, that sounds like our first time we found the old Model A coupe in our neighbor’s backyard and bought it on the spot. Two teenagers pushing out the old Model A coupe and hooking it up behind my brother’s 51 Oldsmobile sedan for a thrilling 5 block tow back to out house, crossing two major streets. A long heavy duty dock line from a local harbor supplies store was the tow rope of choice. I was steering the Model A while my brother was doing his best to keep the rope taut. But, several times I was lax and let it slack off a bit and when my continued moving, it made a bang when tightening again. When we got it home, we stopped at the local pressure spray booth and sprayed everything, including the inside and it air dried to super clean surfaces. The motor was in nice condition and we changed parts and got new plugs, gasoline and battery for a good crank and fire up. It was music to our ears. Of course, my brother backed up to the street and we both took off down the street. A two brothers project getting started… yes! Jnaki The happiness of hearing the 4 cylinder motor starting up and us driving around the block(s) was pretty nice. But that did not last very long. Within a few weeks, he sold the Model A coupe and his 51 Oldsmobile and bought a new 1958 348/280 hp Impala for his teenage racing and daily driver to school. It was the he same thing on the tow home. But, this time I was excellent at keeping the rope taut and safe. The 348 motor was outstanding. But the 283 SBC motor was apart and took longer for the final assembly and ignition. When the 283 SBC + 6 Strombergs fired up, it was music to our ears and a well deserved job of doing something right. Powerful and noisy. It made our mom come out to the far reaches of the backyard to see what we did to make such a noise. Note: When we raced the 283 for several months and had some good times for a first time build. But, there was more to come. My brother decided to go after some of the top racers in both B/Gas and C/Gas with the addition of a new blower spec SBC motor/parts and a new 671 Isky-Gilmer Belt Drive motor. Now, that took very long to build and when we finished, it was a job well done. The initial fire up was done in the backyard and it surprised both of us. Our little neighbor who usually wandered back to where we were working and played around, stopped by for a visit. When she came near the Willys ready to fire, we told her to back up a little. Then we fired it up for the first time and the noise was so strong that it scared the little girl to run back inside of the house calling out for our mom… She got scared of the loud, powerful motor. When my brother revved up the motor once or twice, it made more noise and sounded more powerful. Before our mom could come out to yell at us, we backed up out of the narrow driveway and took off down the street. Now, it was neighborhood drive time to see what we had built. Zowieee!!! Music to our teenage ears!!! YRMV
