Trying to determine the age of the tires on my 37. There's no DOT number, just these numbers at the bead. Firestone Transport 6.00 x 16LT. They're like brand new but they have to be at least 20 years old. Tried searching online but could only find DOT numbers. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
D.O.T. mandated four digit codes by year 2000, they were three digit prior to that. Starting when, I dunno probably in the 80s. When did metric sizes come into common use? A long time ago, those are way more than 20 years old I'm thinkin'.
This car was parked in 1955. Was pulled out in the early-mid 90's. If I understand correctly DOT numbers started in 1990. So does that make these tires pre-1956? They're like brand new. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
no tires over 10 years old should be used in any vehicle on the highway......... ask me how I know ........ almost flipped my model A at 70 mph when rear tire blew out ........ looked brand new...........still blew out and we was up on two wheels going sideways on hy 80.......................JMHO
The DOT tire codes started in '69 and were required by '71 (although I don't think truck tires had to comply right away), so if there's no 'DOT' with numbers/letters after it, the tire pre-dates to at least the mid 70s....
Jeez guys, I know not to drive on them! Was just curious as to the age. With no DOT they have to date to 55. They aged better than the rest of the car. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
