Well, motor and ****** are in and its time to wack the firewall. My biggest concern is where the column will go thru the firewall. anyone with ideas or pics how they did theirs. Been seriously thinking bout just mounting my body about an inch back, then I wouldn't have to wack my firewall at all, just modify for the distributor. Come on, someone step up and help.....Scott
find a piece of tubing that that wiil slip over the columm shaft. weld on a couple of nuts to hald the columm anf use set screws to hold it. weld into the floor board. or to a plate that will bolt to the floor . jerry
If moving the body back an inch will give you the room you need with only a small mod needed for the distributor, I would go that route myself. Of course, then your rear wheels will sit an inch farther forward on the body unless you make a change there, and your hood won't fit without moving the radiator shell back...but you weren't gonna run a hood anyway, right??
Toglink... I havn't been here in a while... What's your setup.. motor, body, steering, etc. My son and I just cut our firewall for the stering shaft, were using an F1 column and will use the original F1 jacket. We plan on mounting it low with the origianl F1 column mount and mounting the upper end with a whacked off and weleded connecting rod... I will have some pics hopefully in a few days.
Heres how I did mine. http://www.roddingroundtable.com/tech/articles/firewall1.html Oh yeah, thank Fat Cat for hosting it on his site. For the Column mount, its just a peice of heavy wall tubing welded in with a bung for a hold down bolt.
