here's the '31's fire wall

 

To me one of the big differences between real nice hot rod and street rod is on a hot rod you see the wire looms and there will be needed items mounted on the firewall and you will see neatly routed wires across the firewall or on the engine. Street rod = OH **** we can't have wires show.
I'm in the all too guilty of not taking the time to make things neat and clean as I could when it comes to underhood wiring. Probably the cleanest it was was back in 1982 when I did spend a bit more time on it as I was headed to a national truck show with it.

I've probably taken around 100 photos of Billy's 34 over the years since I first saw it at the Portland Roadster show where I still think that dark area of the room it was in cost him a trophy. The one thing that you see on that car is that there is total attention to detail on each and every part of the car and nothing is there without a specific reason. A lot of things you don't actually notice until the third or fourth time around like that wire loom simply because it just flat looks right and looks like it belongs there. Still it shows that planning and attention to detail are what make for a really nice hot rod and that if you do it neat and tidy you can hide things in plain sight and make them part of the view rather than a distraction and a lot of it is that extra few minutes or hours involved.
