I have this aftermarket "bitchen" firewall for my 32 PU. It is not fitting the way I have it set in place. there is a 1/2in gap in both sides that I cant see a way to fill. The box said 32sedan on it... from what I have heard the 32 sedan and truck are the same... What should I do?

  3. there is a rubber gasket that goes between the cowl and a stock firewall ...do you have that in? i'm not familiar with 32 pickups..but on passenger cars the bottom of the cowl is pulled down with a bolt through the side panel and frame

The dash is differant between a sedan and a truck. The truck dash is wider not sure about the fire wall

    Blake,

Is the front of the cowl resting on the frame in that seond picture?

From the pic, it doesn't look like it's a consistant half-inch gap all the way around. It looks flush at the top, and it seems to widen as the gap travels down the sides of the firewall.

I would think that if you brought the bottom sides of the cowl in towards the center of the car you would be in good shape.

If, however, the cowl is hanging well below the top of the frame, then I'd say it doesn't fit.

I have never used a******en firewall but if it was my car, I would sell the firewall and install a orignal 32.. It's amazing how many motors fit with out wacking the snot out of the orignal. Might need a trim onthe bottom [IMG]. And with the repo's out and nice copys . it seems prices have dropped a bit.. If you do keep the******en, a long bungy cord will work for a body gasket. As for the dash ,a pick-up is a bit longer and the gauge tunnel is diffrent too..

Also, the '32 rubber gasket is pretty thick. I meant to look at one last night for you, but forgot. '32 firewall bolts solid to the frame, body sits in the groove with a gasket, body is cinched down with two big bolts at front of cowl that pullitdown against the gasket and have some use as body-door-cowl alignment devices as well.

I have just been test fitting the original firewall in my sedan and it fits a lot closer than that.

The lip on the body sits inside the channel on the firewall all the way around, and I would guess that the compressed thickness of the gasket is about 1/4 of an inch.

Is the body in the right place on the frame ? The 'foot' on the front of the body goes into the middle of the three holes, with the original firewall legs using the front and rear holes. You should bolt the body down first and then see how it looks.

If it still doesn't fit, you could cut a pie section out around the lower edge of the firewall and spread the channel out till it fits the body, then fills the gap with sheet metal ?
