I have a 1930 Model A pickup. I am not sure that I can salvage the old firewall. I have seen both metal and fiberglass firewalls for street rods. The fiberglass ones are almost half the price of steel ones. What are the pros and cons of fiberglass vs steel? Thanks.
To save money, make a pattern and cut yourself a flat firewall from metal sheetstock. Bonding fiberglass to metal just doesn't work in the long haul.
fibreglass is lame and steel is cool seriously you could make your own out of all kinds of stuff . Plywood with a thin layer of brushed stainless guled to it , a piece of polished alluminum , or diamondplate , a wheelbarrow works good . . . there are lots of ways to skin that cat .

I like how the one in Don's car is apparently used . It has all kinds of big assed dents from hauling rocks & shit . pretty cool stuff , about as cheap as you can get !

[ QUOTE ] What are the pros and cons of fiberglass vs steel? [/ QUOTE ] In general, I'd say use a fiberglass firewall on a fiberglass car, and a steel firewall for a steel car. But if you want a HAMB answer, get the cheapest piece of flat shit you can find, and use some serious creativity to make it work. What shape is the cowl in? When you say that the firewall isn't salvagable, does that mean you couldn't patch it with a similar bead-rolled piece of steel sheet?

[/ QUOTE ] now that I look again , the first picture is real clean looking and the second one is all beat up looking , but it could be some wierd shadow , or who knows what . regardless , it is badass . I wonder who was the first numbskull that realized how good that would work ?
