Looking for some feedback. Have the opportunity to purchase a 1934 5 window. The car is complete, it needs a floor pan replaced, lower doors redone and rockers. Sheet metal, no big cost. The labor, is a labor of love and stress relief after hours in the shop All you hot rodders out there, what do you see this class of car going for?
Looks a good car, floor pan replacement is typical along with lower patches, the good thing is it hasn't been played with yet with poor body work etc. My guess is around the 20-25k mark.
Saw that one too, pretty cool and complete. I'd probably pay close to what there asking. I just brought this one home a couple weeks ago to tinker with.
My thoughts are that unless you get a killer deal, the price point will be on the high side for the starting point for a Hot Rod. If you were looking to restore or Resto-Rod a 34 this would be an ideal starter. Ultimately, if you're only going to use the body and frame, that leaves you paying a premium for a complete car and recouping some of your start cost by selling off the original drivetrain, radiator, suspension, lights, wheels, bumpers, steering column, etc. Fenders-if you go Hiboy. There's no doubting you'll save a ton of hassle and labor starting with that cherry body, grille and hood, etc... You didn't say what this is priced at. My angle is simply, that you could probably start with a bare frame (original or new rails) and body shell for at least 10k less than this full car and build from there.
That car is listed pretty fairly. The cost will be in getting the new subrails, floor and fab work. I did it to my coupe and it is a labor of love. Model 40s rule.
I've been working on this 35/36. Practicing my metal fab. So tackling those things do not seem like they should be major expenses . Time is money, but when it's stress relief, it's also therapy
Well model 40s are cool to the bone. I don't know asking on that one but as of late I have seen them listed @ deuce prices. I don't know if they are going for that but that is asking anyway if that is any help. Floor pans or not that one looks like a good candidate for a California kid type of a build, maybe not a clone (too many windows and cloning is not cool) but that style of build. A fendered model 40 is just class on wheels as far as I am concerned.
Beaners right, Model 40s are climbing in value and popularity fast. If you can reach it and you feel like you got a pretty good deal , go for it. it will sell when you are ready. Especially Henry steel.
I bet that in the long run, this one is cheaper. http://jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/34-ford-5-window-coupe.973105/#post-10992538
Brought her home today. Thank you to my beautiful wife. Now I promise to finish the house before I get the car on the road
I think the big n littles are staying. Take out a leaf or two to get the stance right. Tune the motor and brakes. Add a seat and we are on the road
You done good, I don't know her but give the missus a hug for me anyway. As for the car house thing my missus would be after me to get the car on the road so I would have something to drive her around in while I was working on the house. LOL
