Technical First build 29 A looking for guidance

Hi this is my first build and am looking for some guidance. I am building a 29 A tudor (lightning bolt) with a 331 Hemi (short bell) and a 38 Packard trans (side shift). So far I have chopped 6" off the top and am debating on channeling the body over the original frame or using deuce frame rails. I am slightly vertically challenged so a chop and channel shouldn't be a problum. Don't have the deuce rails and haven't come up with a way to justify them yet... I do have the Hemi and Packard trans just need to find a way to stick the two together. Was told at Back to the 50's "your never going to find an adapter" Yeah ok sure, FU2, maybe I'll just JB weld the shit(looking for an adapter). Anyhow, looking for info on floor shifting a side shift Packard trans. Searched the HAMB and so far some stuff on "Packard trans are almost as good as a Lasalle" and "convert with a top shifting plate" comes up but thats all I can find. The big ? has anyone shortened up a 3 on the tree shifter to use on the floor? Searching the web (don't remember the website) found a how to for a Ford 3 speed column--should work on a Packard I guess. Has anyone done this before or something like it? pros cons? Any other guidance would be great.

Isn't 6 inches on a Tudor the same as 5 on a coupe? Also the limit for how low you can go with a Tudor, with out look like a track car?
Although most cases 4 inch chop goes a long way.!

 

^^^^^ your right. I like mild chops when you almost have to ask yourself if it is chopped....... "Sometimes less is more"

 

I used the article in that mag to make a floor shift for my '50 Ford back about 1960. It actually worked pretty good.
Regarding the Packard trans, I had one in my '50 Olds (floor shift) and blew it up. I found a newer side shift (top loader) and found the floor shifter would bolt onto it but things were not exactly right and the synchro moved a little too far letting the balls fly out. I'm thinking in this day and age a guy could overcome that issue with a little planning.

 

I am going to need to think about what i need to do to fit a 51-53 adapter to a 55. I might be able to bend up a bell housing.
