I thought i would post some pics of my in progress chop on my 50 ford. i chopped it 4 inches in front 4.5 in back and hardtopped it. And im leaving the c pillar edge sharp, not becuase im lazy, but because i like it. Remember im only 15 and dont have all the experience and know how. so far i have done it ALL by myself
Sweet ***!!!! I Wish I had the balls to try that at that age! Keep it up. Looks good so far. Keep us posted with pics. Dont let it get ya down kid. Fear no sawzall!!!!!
At 15 I was in the middle of transplanting a '47 flathead into a '29 coupe. Pretty exciting deal for me. No way I would have had the balls to chop a top. Keep us posted on the progress. Frank
At 15 I was saving pennies to buy my first car... What Frank said...and, I'm continually amazed at how many guys on here work with a single lightbulb in their garage!!!!!
DOOD, please invest in a 100 watt light bulb or get a flash. This is good stuff, and you only do it your first time once! Looks good, and best of luck.-MIKE
Maybe we need to start a HAMB auction to help buy this guy 5-10 $7 shoplights from ACO...lol... Before I moved anything into my garage I strung the lights first....the heater came second.
I'll chip in on the lighting. Get one of those halogen shop lights at Lowe's or whatever for $20. They REALLY make a difference! I'd like to see more of what you are doing. My son is 13 and building a 54 Chevy truck and he wants to try chopping a 4 door 54 parts car we've got. Anybody got a recommended book(s) on chopping, channeling, and sectioning? I've never done it either!
Come on guys you were 15 once. The reason for the lack of light is he told everyone that he's going to the library to study and is secretly working on the Ford instead of doing his homework. Great looking work . Keep this pace up and your gonna make hot rod history.
Since I have a soft spot in my heart for the young guys doing what they do on here, I'll donate the first $28 bucks to get this guy 4 shop lights... anyone with me?
Damn it kid, I'm proud of you, you're better than 90% of the tattooed wannabes that talk about "the car they're gonna build" in our neck of the woods. I'm not sure I understand the part about leaving the C-pillar sharp, could you explain that? Better pictures would help.
when I was 15 and started a project it was more of a..."oh no! what have I done!" Looks good man. Who's going to help him wire up all the donated lights?
Looks awesome, Keep us posted .I love to see first time chops, alot of inspiration. Go Kat Go . swaZZie
I'm impressed !!..I still struggle try to chop 1/25 scale..Please keep us posted on the chop..As soon you can roll it outside so we can get a better view...
Lookin better than what I can say I had (or hadnt) done at 15. I did have my first car by then but I couldnt chop a challenger! Really though that looks way good. Keep it up. And if you get stuck dont be afraid to ask for help from the HAMB.
Count me in, PM me with details. I'll throw in $50 to help this guy. He's on the right track, and doesn't take any **** either!!-MIKE
15 HMMMMM 15 lucky *** kid. I had a P.O.S. jeep with a busted ******. Gotta start somewhere. Hopefully my daughter will be as lucky as this kid. (if I have anything to do with it) Killer job kid.
thanks for all the support and sympithy for my poorly lit shop. Its comin along really good so far. although i do regrett not chopping it another inch out back.
next up after the chop im putting 54 Buick port holes on the fenders and then c-notching the rear hopefully! which that i have done.
There's this one, it's pretty good: http://www.amazon.com/Tex-Smiths-Chop-Tops-Hot/dp/1878772074 PM sent to those who inquired about getting a small fund together to help this guy out with his lighting situation so we can see what he's up to. I'll keep you posted.
where you plan on cuttin the a pillar for the hdtp? what windows? any reinforcement for the lack of b pillar now?
for windows i plan on just lengthening the window channels and getting some gl*** cut and modifying the regulators. For the extra strengthening, it seems to be pretty rigid in the center but i might weld a cross support inside if things get saggy, which im hopeing they wont.
