In a sort of rite of passage last weekend I chopped my first top (admittedly with some guidance from the paps). This was on my '33 ford pickup cab.

4" chop, fairly straightforward with a body this vertical. Only thing left to do is finish welding it up and finish up the windshield posts.

Will be starting my frame fabrication 101 this weekend.

Anyone got an intake/distributor for a 302 ford?

Going to channel it over some homemade rails, make my own little box out back, Z the frame both front and rear (want it as low as possible). Suicide axle out front of an unknown grille shell, motivated by a 302/T5.

Thanks, there is still a bit of work left to button it up and feather the windshield posts out, but at least its all together and looking good.

almost wish i had taken another inch out of it.

I would like it to look like this:

  8. That looks good! Can I ask about how many hours went into the chop?

Once we got the doors and windshield frame removed it only took a couple hours to buzz the top off and tac it back on.

Looks good Matt, will need to hook up with you and your dad. I have a 46 4dr and a Dodge pick-up. You building that in GB or GR. I have a factory 302 electronic dist. you can have but I don't think that is what you are looking for.

Sorry, I missed your post, the HAMB is so active the threads just fly by!

My dad is a '46 ford fanatic, he's got himself down to just two of them (coupe & convert).

Is that 302 dizzy a computer controlled one? I just need a regular old electronic distributor to use with my carb. I see a lot of the aftermarket ones are GM HEI units on a ford shaft.. maybe go that way?

Here's the car now, about 2 weeks later:

first chop is great fun / scare. I still havent done a hot rod or traditional custom-- a vw was my only chop (which wasnt easy.) yours looks good.

you can get even more chop experience if you take another 2 inches out of it! :D

First chop is really fun... it looks like there is more stuff in the garage to cut up. Get the motor back against firewall. It's a Ford distributer is in the front. Shove it back as far as you can and makes the front end look even longer.
    Have fun,Smokey

Thanks for the advice. I chose to use the '33 (I also have a '32) because I liked the more prominant firewall (rather then the recessed 32 one). For this reason, I prefer not to cut it up a lot, which is why the engine is where it is. At this point the motor mounts and tranny mount are already in so its not going anywhere.

    Thanks.
