Really good looking ride! You ain't gonna have any trouble if bolts are tight and it don't rain. Don't worry, just have a ball!
I'm glad you started this thread. My wife, daughter and I are taking the '54 for a 1400 mile round trip. Good tips. However, if we need rain gear, obviously something bad has happened and we are screwed.
If nothing else take the fire extinguisher out of the bed and keep it close by,,remember Deuce Roadsters disaster? HRP
Greetings from a few off ramps east of you. Good luck on the road trip. Pack your patience for the wait at the border. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
If you are a N.S.R.A. member don't forget the "Fellow Pages" they send every year. I had to use it once and it saved my ***!
It's been said but absolutely take a hat, some gl***es/goggles, sunscreen, water and something to keep the water cool. What's your plan for a spare tire?
rain is no problem.. but the sun will kick your ****.. do whatever you can to drive in the early morning or later eve.. I've to run next to a semi just to get out of the sun abit...
I haven't read all the replies, but don't forget a tow rope!! In case you are on the side of a heavily traveled road and want to go elsewhere for safetys sake. PLEASE take photos and post the results of the trip. Sounds like a great time!! Be safe and enjoy it.
The trip was a success! I have made this run numerous times, but this is the first time I actually enjoyed it. Was a bit chilly in the early morning but it was overcast for 75% of the trip. I did not hit the sunny weather until I was a bit south of Cleveland. Those that suggested I just slow down and enjoy, were right on the money. I did however learn a some things on this trip: - Apparently I am a celebrity. Every 2nd car that I drove by or that p***ed me was taking pictures or video. - A bug at 65mph, hurts - Wind wings are a very good thing - Trailing a poorly tuned diesel truck ****s - 71 South, south of Cleveland is a horrible stretch (they need to speed up the construction because that road ****s) - 75 degrees, is not 75 degrees at 65mph, glad I wore a sweatshirt. - a windbreaker is a must - earphones are a godsend - along with some good cruising tunes. - your MPG is directly tied to your right foot...lol though I did average 19mpg I am pretty happy about that - Watching the hawks cruise around above your head hunting, is damn cool! No major events along the way, though I did find I have one nasty wobble between 95-105kph. Above or below is fine, only in that range did I have it. I will see if I can track down the cause tomorrow. Oh yeah, I ran into an older large black woman that races a 9 sec track T in the Cleveland area, she came over and was checking out my car as I filled up, I "Made her day" seeing someone out driving one I did crack the solder joint for my radiator fill tube, anyone know a good rad shop in Columbus (Hilliard area) that is open on Saturday? I have a can of fix a flat in the tool bag. That's the best I could do. I will also 2nd the hat and good sungl***es!
Keep, I've begun to carry the sticky rope and T-tool, to fill in a puncture (for tubeless tires) if a nail finds it's way into. And a tire pump. I'll look at the Fix-a-Flat. Sounds like a good trip south!
That's a good idea as well. I like the "fix a flat" can as it will pump the tire back up as well, well in theory its supposed to fill it back up!
