  4. Technically that would now be your second paint job, right?

  6. It turned out nice. Here was my 1st paint job way back when I had my small shop. Of cause the snow didn't help it, and I had more hair back then. LOL. Bruce. img703.jpg

  7. The last paint job, I did in my garage. I did it with a H.F paint gun and like Grabis says it has to have a regulator on it .Mine did, made a big difference. Bruce. 001.JPG

When I cut and buff, I leave the car taped up if I do it right away, seems to save time on cleanup. The buffing compound turns into a rock if not cleaned up right away.

i have found that my hvlp gun never shot "right" until i took the regulator at the gun off, and replaced it with a regulator at the wall. i think the one i had was good at the LP part but was restricting the HV part.

Good idea, If there was anything besides a milk crate inside I would have ripped the paper off and went for a cruise. That crate slipped backwards on me when I was trying to drive it into the garage. I think I puckered so hard I held onto it long enough to brake.

Hadn’t thought about regulator flow. I’m using all cheap stuff right now. I’d like to change the setup anyway and maybe get a regulator intended for a gun. I have this one running a regulator and dryer/filter off the bottom and the hose hit the floor when doing the lowest part of the car.

those in line dryer are a restriction also. when i bought my hvlp they sold me a 1/2 air line to feed it. i sprayed with the regulator at the gun for a couple years and never even thought it would have been a problem till i set up my new shop with the regulator at the wall. it was like a whole different gun.

  14. I swapped the fitting on my gun to 3/8 and it made a huge difference by providing more volume. I might try the wall regulator and see if it gets any better as there's a bunch of restriction in those pissy little valves. Also I sorta made a mistake while cleaning my gun and reamed the holes in the cap next to the nozzle. I thought I screwed up the cap but it sprayed a lot better after that.

I use Milton V fittings. They are bigger inside, and flow a disturbing amount of air.

My stepdads 58 is heading off to have the headliner and windlace installed. First time it’s been out of the garage since I painted it last November. Nice seeing it outside even in the gray and rain. Perfect timing too. Just got a notice from the county that I have to do something with my derelict cars or I’ll be fined $100 a day. I have to 54s with no front sheet metal. They’re both rollers. Sheesh. At least the garage just got an open spot. [IMG][IMG][IMG]

Great looking car. That $3000-7000 you saved him will buy one nice headliner...
