Projects First Project - 26 Tudor

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by splitnrag, Feb 27, 2012.

  1. I have been on here off and on over the years sold my '53 5-window last year in hopes to do an old school rod that I would say will fit between a rat-rod and a nice driver. I have a ton of questions however I'll get to those under technical later or maybe someone can help answer them as far as which way to go with suspension/frame etc...

I bought my '26 this weekend with a Flathead V8 (still trying to figure out what year it's out of).

The motor has been rebuilt but never fired .030over and looks to be a great start. The body is in decent shape I will need to figure out where to get some replacement panels and I'm excited to get rolling on it.

Let me know what you think.
(cant seem to get the tag to work for photos I will try to figure that out. Thanks

  2. Ok I finally got the image tag to work. The drivers side is the worst part of the car but still salvageable and the some. :)

    Looks like a great start.
    keep us posted.
Model T patch panels can be got from Howell's in TX.
Do a search on Howell's here and read the comments.
I prefer to buy their panels thru a dealer, seems they get priority when it comes to delivery, otherwise see them at a swapmeet and get what they have there and then.

Best of luck with the build, I love "T"s, it looks like a good start, are you putting it onto an "A" frame?.

Well the flathead is a V8 60, made 38 to 40, they have no low end torque and only 60 HP, I put one in a Model A ( my avatar ) and my Model A pickup with a hopped up B four banger would out run it up to about 60 mph when it ran out of the safe rpm range. Now the good news, V8 60s are real popular with vintage racers, they are in midgets and go good at higher rpms, I would sell it and buy a full size flathead. Check vintage racing sites for pricing.

Good luck in your build. I have been working off and on for abut 6 months on my 26T Tudor. A lot of work, but think it will be worth it in the long run. If you need any help on parts, etc. will try to help you.

Good luck! I love the T's. I'm gathering parts and ideas for a '27 T Coupe.

  10. Thanks everyone for the positive news. Now as far as running it on a Model A frame that was orginally my thought so I have a question. I have an opportunity to buy a complete (restored) stock Model A frame, motor, trans, wiring, guages, brakes, front and rear etc.... I mean everything and the motor has about 300 miles on it. Is it worth going that route? Do I want to chase that and then start upgrading or is it wise just to start into it with the mindset buy it once, build it once? What is a stock setup like this worth? Now the 60hp motor I have restored is missing a couple of parts any thoughts on it's value? Thanks for the tip on place to get sheet metal. Even though I don't have the suspension at this time I'm going to start working on my metal as I obviously have a bit of work to do. :)

  11. Any thoughts on running a stock model A frame, running gear etc..... I have a friend that wants me to buy his complete running gear minus a body so means I could get this up and running however if this isn't a wise move then I'll start looking for a rolling suspension. The whole setup has about 300 miles on it and when I say includes everything I mean the whole shebang and he wants about $3k for it. I just don't know enough to know whether this is a good way to start and run it while I put my Flathead V8 setup to go in it. Oh and he has all of the boxing plates so I can go ahead and beef it up for the future.. So any guidance would be appreciated.
