i have been a car watcher forever. i never really had the capitol to spend to get a car of my own... until now. i purchased a 1968 ford torino fastback. never having or buying a car before, my exitement probably got the best of me. anyway, now its mine. after driving it for about two weeks a buddy of mine drove it, its the fastest thing ive driven. he said he thought there was a proplem with the front end. after further inspection with the car about 2 feet off the ground it was discovered that the junction where the front frame rails meet the uni-body were twisted, rotten and one side was broken. yes i know (now) never buy a car without a buddy that knows cars. well after going to several car shows and not finding any torinos i went to the local drag strip. there it was a 68 ... nice. the dude that owned the car told me he could never get out of the 11's with the car until he put a frame under it. now hes running low 10's. the wheels in my head were turning... i can do that. heres where i am along with the parts i have started a collect. my goal is a 100% street legal car with a very occational trip down the drag strip with a more often trip to do a road race. i purchased a chris alston front hub to hub kit including crossmember. a compe***ion enginneering 4 link rear. then a ford 9" rear end cut to 47.5". in the front i have 13" discs and 11.5" discs for the rear. the rear end has axles but no gears yet. i have a 2x3 frame designed along with a tubular roll cage on paper full size. i am trying my best to have every thing planned before the start of the frame. this is my first project but i do know the poor planning cost more money. i have wheels that i am trying to build around which are 315/35zr 17 rear and 255/40zr 17 front. my question is, i am trying to use a 460ci motor that will have around 500/515 hp. can anyone recommend a transmission in either a 5 or 6 speed that doesn't cost hugh money? i found a tremec 5 speed that will handle 600 ft lbs. torq. is this a good idea? secondly is a bellhousing to mate the two. any recommendations? and lastly does any one have an opinion about rear end gears... someone told me that 3.73 would be a good gear mated with that tremec ******. how do you know? thank you for putting up with my newbie questions. i can't wait to go from paper to metal. thanks again. any thoughts or ideas will be appreciated and considered. bob check this out... every thing that i have collected so far, with the exection of the car itself and the engine are sitting on my living room floor set up as if it were drivable
Sounds like you have your hands full. Let me tell you something before someone gets their ******* in a bunch. Your project does not really fit within the guidelines of this forum. The cutoff is 1964. That being said, I'm sure someone could give you opinions on a suitable trans and your other questions, but some around here might not be too friendly. Good luck on your Torino, sounds like you have the makin's of a mean machine.
you were right, i have received several PM's. i am very sorry for my mistake. i have been reading your site for a few short months and usually look at tech stuff. really great paint posts. i really never picked up on the 64 cutoff. i just thought it was for car lovers. please accept my appology. no disrespect intended.
Chopndrop is right. Nothing personal but your car dont fit. Some here can be quite hostile about it in fact. I think you will probably get a better response from a muscle car forum, or street machine forum.

What Phil said, keep lurking, there is a zillion tons of knowledge here. Your response to these post pointing out the "flavor" of the HAMB says a lot for the type of guy you must be. Hang around and I am sure that you will be able to contribute in many ways even if talking about your current build isn't one of them. There are a lot of folks here that have cars that aren't traditional, we just don't talk about them here. BB
