I just rebuilt the front end on my 50 Fleetline. It was not too bad for a first time! Waiting on the idler arm to come back from The Filling Station was the worst of it LOL I bought the full rebuild kit (king pins bushings etc), idler arm rebuild, and drag link rebuild. So far it drives like a dream ... will really know once I get it out on the big roads! Video below .....
Thanks HRP and John ... the front end was a mess for a car that looks so good. And yes I definitely need to capture the sound better.!
Isn't a drop out front suspension a wonderful thing? Now your front suspension looks as nice as the rest of the car! Well Done, KK
How did you find the fit of the kingpin bushings? I will be doing mine soon and have read that some honing may be needed, as the bushings you get today don't slide in like the old ones. Great looking car, by the way. A little front end work on mine transformed it into a great driving car, I'm sure you will find the same once you get it out and open it up a little. They slid in nicely. I was able to take the bushings in and out with ease. It was a little difficult getting he shims and thrush bearing in there but once it i all lined up the king pins are no issue. They slide in and out easily as well. I found one side was firm with two shims (in a good way) The other could have been firmer with one shim but I could not get two in that one so I went with one. No honing was required on mine.
