Here is a link to what this car used to look like "back in the day". Then it was left to sit for a few years. Now this is what it looks like. Real shame. Owner is willing to sell but wants a pretty penny for it. 292, auto bench car needing upholstery and paint and tinkering.

I'd rather ruin em on the street then sitting in a shed.

  5. A little elbow grease and she'll be close to new. It's too bad soo many get to that shape, buy hey...if everyone took perfect care of their cars, we wouldn't have anything to talk about and do in our garage...there would be nothing to restore.

Clean that puppy right up! A good wash with lots of soapy water, then a good buff job and a vacuum, and I'll bet money it looks 95% of what it does in the "show" pics. That thing is beautiful!

What's the point of the thread if you don't say how much a "pretty penny" is?

Cars get dirty sitting in an open carport?

  10. Just how pretty does the penny have to be?

this thread is stupid...at***udes like this are why certain people will buy a car and see a little rust and then consider it a "parts car", and before you know it its junked. That car just needs a wash and buffing

Might not even need a buff. Take it through the spray yourself for $5 and its like new. $7000 for a rust free car that needs a wash and a tune up, sounds like a deal.

It will probably need a lot more than a wash and wax. Interior needs to be redone and it supposedly "does not run" but they won't eleborate so it can be anything from a dead battery to an empty engine bay. I'll go check it out though.

My alltime favorite, and black too. I've owned 2 60s and a '61 along the way, but they're gone now. If I had the money, 7 grand would change hands quickly, and someone would inherit that car.

I hear ya, 7 large is a lot of money for a car that needs everything mechanical and interior replaced or rebuilt, most likely.

That said, it's probably worth it to somebody judging how amazingly clean that body and trim appear!

Think of it this way, money saved on chrome and bodywork and hopefully paint will go a looooong way if you spend that money on mechanical!

Too bad about the interior though, gotta figure in $bucks$ for that if you can't DIY.

Anyway great find and thanks for posting it!

  24. you were the first to say part it out.. he just said he was hesitant about $7000.. money is harder to come by these days you know..

anyways slick ride.. hope you can rescue it.. keep us posted..

Didn't all of them start beautiful?

  27. Lot to be said for driving a car regularly or at least every week.

And . . . farther than the Saturday night rod run two miles away.

I think that's the main thing that makes my roadster so dependable.

Small case in point, guy up the street from me in Sunny Central California had an Oakland Roadster Show car built.
Good looking 37 Cabriolet and after mucho $$$ it shoulda been.
Far as I know he trailered it to Oakland.

Then drove it to the local fairly big car show downtown.
Saw it running down the street, ran good.

Same thing next year except for Oakland.
Saw it heading for the car show, running good.

Third year, headed for the car show again, stumbling, running bad, the whole magilla.

Far as I knew he never drove it anywhere else.

And after the bad running episode I never saw the car again.

Sitting in the garage last I heard....

back to the ford, i'm a chevy man, bleed chevrolet orange, but that car has some really cool lines on it.the design is great. my 2cents:cool:

  29. $7000 doesn't seem out of reason for that car.

We had no trouble selling one so ****ty the hood skin blew off in a windstorm, but complete with all the gl***, for $1000 a couple years ago.

$7000 might seem a bit high for a car that needs some work but it looks like a good body and it is the desirable Starliner. I look at it as even if it needs a new motor and complete interior it would take no where near $13g to turn that into a potential 20g car.
