Speedworld dragstrip in Arizona had their "straight axle" gig today. Since it was a nostalgia event I figured nobody would be there and I could test a little, I was wrong, it was packed with bracket guys who run all the time.
I got in the hot rod lane.....it was time runs only. As of this morning, the car had been over 45 mph one time and that was bout 50 mph tops. I had not tried the line lock or the trans brake, but I figured I should be responsible and do it at the track where it would be sticky.

The first pass I cleaned off the tires and attempted to take off with the trans brake but it
stuck......the light went yellow...I let the button go and the car didnt move, I let off the gas, i felt it kick in gear so I took off, I never looked at the tach, but I never hit the rev limiter...... I ran it to half track, let off and then drove it thru the end at 66 mph. After I quit shaking I got back in line.

Second attempt It stuck again, I ran it to 1000 feet and shut it off, again
everything happens so fast I never looked at the tach, but it went straight so I
got back in line. You can see the delay here, the two cars I raced had mufflers so you can hear my sedan too.

Third pass I stood on the gas a little harder with the trans brake to make sure
I wasnt causing the sticking...... Nope...same thing, it delayed a second, I let off the gas, I felt it engage Drive so I nailed the gas. As I approached the finish line I let off and coasted thru at 12.2 seconds at 99 mph.

My best 60 foot time was 1.7

I had no plans to run more than half track today, but it went straight once the brake released. I didnt do any big smokey burnouts, just spun them enough to clean them off I guess.

Most importantly it was a blast. Thanks to the organizers.

    See you guys in Mokan.

Awesome. What do ya think it'll run when you get the bugs worked out?

  3. rOcK on...been waiting to see how your car was progressing, once you get that trans brake issue sorted you're going to be in for a fun ride..

    Cheers, and congrats,

I dont know....but I have a whole new appreciation for those pro stock guys on TV. I have to figure out the trans brake thing. That was throwing everything off because I didnt figure out what was going on until the third pass. I need to get some more seat time, practice with the ratchet shifter, and work on my burnout process.

It sure was fun though, I had not raced a car since high school, and my last pass on a track was 10 years ago when I was playing with GSXR's

looks like the car has potential. once you get it dialed in, you will have to make some runs on street tires to see what it can do in street trim

The car looked good today. Once you get the bugs worked out I'd love to see a full on pass! Should be a blast!

Thanks, I know a 1.7 60ft. time is terrible, but considering I wasnt even foot braking it, I was stabbing it from an idle Iam pretty happy. A 1.5 with the trans brake working right should be no problem

Great to hear!!!!..congrats........It takes alot of practice-tuning-and more important, becoming one with your HotRod at the controls so everything becomes second nature....Have fun, Littleman

Did you find out what the trans break prob. was ?? Low voltage ??? I have had those probs. in years past, usually an easy fix.

No, I didnt look into it yet. Thanks for the suggestions though, I will check voltage and grounds. It works fine with the motor off, you can see the solenoid pop in and out at ease.

Littleman...you are right, I realized how bad I was when I made the first pass and never looked at the tach.

Good work Glen. Reminds me of our first tentative runs in our roadster all those years ago.

went to a different track. I thought I had the sticking trans brake fixed but it is not. We are not running dial in's in this video, I let off the gas and the brake releases, then I mash the pedal.

Justin ran a 11.96 @ 111 mph, first time he has had the car at the track.

In this pass my 60 ft. time is a 2.24 and I still ran thru at 111 mph with a 12.4, There is no reason I shouldn't be able to do a 1.4.... it hooked well on my second pass tonight.
