Tell your machinist to **** it up and put in a set of adjustables. Tearing a fresh motor apart just to adjust lifter clearance is why adjistables were invented. Like already stated if the engine comes out drill the holes into the lifter bosses and be forever prepared to make a simple valve adjustment with the removal of the intake and a half hour later your ****oned up and ready for a drive.
