hi guys has anybody fitted a studebaker V8 into a 1936 ford as I am looking to do this to my 5 inch chopped 36 flat back 4 door sedan as I have enough other Flatheads and my day to day driver is a 63 studebaker Lark and I like the look of the Stude V8
Yeah, go for it, they are cool! I know Dean Moon put one into a 1934 Ford 5-window way back, and Tommy here has one in a '34 Ford pickup so it should fit fine in a '36.
Dean Moon put one in a deuce roadster once, so I'm sure it can be done with a '36. Have you asked over on the Studebaker Drivers Club forum, or Racing Studebakers forum?
the side mounts of the Stude are similar to the early Hemi and mopar blocks....and pretty sure the early Cad blocks as well....
There seems to be enough room in the engine bay if I don't use a fan,I was not going to use one on the flathead and I have installed an electric one in front of the radiator. the front mounts are in much the same place and the sump should clear the steering drag link. I can lift the engine up high as there is plenty of room.I would like to use a studebaker 3 speed manual gearbox as I have one in my 63 Lark and I like the overdrive and free wheel and it should fit as I have a 5 speed behind the flathead and the clutch uses a cross shaft as well.
The Studie engine is dimensionally almost identical to early Caddy OHV V8 engines. The Caddy was a fairly common swap in those old Fords.....so by extrapolation, the Studie should fit as well. Ray
the flathead will be sold but I will keep the trick air cleaner and matching fined alloy covers on the firewall as this is the only set in the world, I made up the patterns and had them cast here in Dunedin one cover hides the battery box that has been set into the firewall and the other covers some of the fuses they look pretty trick and I may have a few more sets cast as a few mates would like a set . the push on head covers are NZ made Berry and Chung from the 70s and have been traded off to a good home.
