This got the boot on regular forum, so will try it here. This is one of the 2 Bendix cv joints from my MH Ford all wheel drive. There is a groove in each of the ball channels that creates a bit of axial play in the joint. Does anyone know of a machine shop that could build up, cut, then heat treat the channels? These are long obsolete, so options are limited. I know I could run them as is, but would sooner fix them. IMG_0688.jpeg IMG_0687.jpeg IMG_0686.jpeg

the greasy assembled joint is from a 1.5 ton axle I have.

I did send an inquiry to Mark Williams Axles, curious what they will say.

Just spitballing here. Could you use slightly larger diameter balls to tighten it back up? I could picture getting some that are just slightly larger, and using Clover compound, lap everything in to smooth out the channels. Then again just slightly larger than that for the final fit. It would be a little bit tedious, but just the cost of a few ball bearings and some Clover compound.
