Steer damper helped my car big time. I was ready to sell my old g***er and buy some bolt together from a box Camero. Every thing brand new x Zep 50 chevy truck axle.Done all my homework lots of blumbob level straight edge front end aniglinements and so on. So Cal damper worked.

Could I see a picture of your set-up? My friend is having a bad shimmy in his model A with split wishbones. Pictures are when built if I can get some pictures now I will.

First place to look when hunting down cause of front end shimmy is tire pressure. It is important to check and even the tire pressure in both front tires as one tire pressure higher than the opposing side will produce a different tire patch that will effect the tracking. Tire pressure should be with in 2lbs of equal if not equal but not over inflated to rock hard. Second place to index is the axle to make sure it is square to the rear axle and frame, any skew will unbalance tire loads and change contact patch also.
To those that expound on the factory application of shock damper is to compensate for unknown operation of vehicle as well as different tires and wheels installed by owner. Simply heavily loading your PU with a load of stone or a slide in camper will change the front load and create a caster change or weight balance issue which effects the tire patch. The VW example is based upon design placement of the steering box and uneven length tie rods that skew as load is place upon the front end or removed from it. Typical design engineering response , it looked good on paper. A redesign can be done at much expense or a $3.00 shock will mask the issue.
