    Hey Matt,

The use of a torch to shrink stretched metal (plip plops) is as old as the sheetmetal repair craft itself. Learning the basics from a video will start you down the road of understanding, but it will never, in and of its self, make a master of you. It's when you actually take the torch to a panel, and study what happens, that skill builds. There ain't no better educator than experience! Maybe a HAMB get together in your area that covers different methods of shrinking and O/A welding would shorten the learning curve for you. I was a punk-*** kid, and really thought I knew something about metalworking, but it wasn't until I got out in the trade and had to make a living with a hammer, dolly & torch that the real learning began.

The method described is not misinformation. It is simply a different method than you use. It works just fine and there are different methods to accomplish the same goal for different people. Just because you have your own method of doing something doesn't make all the rest misinformation. It's simply one way to do it if you do not like it use your own method.

Bottom line is it works just fine FOR ME and others of my era it was the method I was taught and have used so no need to try and scare off other members they can try it and make up their own minds.

You posted up your OPINIONS and nobody had to resort to BS flaming and THAT should have been that. We have heard your opinion and that should stand by itself that is what a discussion is no need to try and aggrandize yourself at others expense we get it you disagree

I tell ya what - I'm no metal man by a long shot. BUT just the idea of stretching in a "cone" 1-3" in the panel, then beating it down with glancing blows from a checkered hammer sounds outright dumb. It doesn't even p*** the common sense test.

A real metal man needs no filler. Most can only aspire to that level.

Sure, there are other ways to accomplish things, but when something becomes obsolete, it's usually for a reason...either knowledge or technology has made it so.
