how do you guys fix the rotted wood around the door, frame? do you you just make new wood or reinforce it with sheet metal?

i'm working on a 35 Olds business coupe that has the doors sagging really bad on the driver side and not as bad on the pass side. it has factory suicide doors. i've checked some of the wood on the back half of the car it still seems solid not sure of the floor though. the only major rust is the trunk floor has been eaten thru thats easy to fix. the rest is just surface rust. this car is in great shape for being 69 yrs old.
    thanks for the help

  2. I replace the wood with steel.

did you just remove the wood and use it as a template? what gauge sheet metal did you use? also how did you keep the doors from twisting did you brace it before removing them or did you reinfoce them still on the car?
sorry for the game of 20 questions.

Sometimes the wood joints inside the door get loose and let the door "rack" out of square. You may be able to cure the problem without major surgery. A screen door type "turn buckle" screwed to the wood between the top hinge area and the lower rear corner (under the door panel of course) can be adjusted to square up the door. If it's more involved the that, you've got major work ahead.
