Looking good. Now, if you are really trying to fix ugly, don't put that sbc back in it. Put something cool in it like a Pony or Olds or Caddy of FE Ford. Anything but yet another sbc. JMHO
I have either a very large BBC 496" or 555" or this small SBC 295". The BBC are way to much for this car and the SBC is a tad to small so I will have to stay with the SBC for now because money it tight and I am having to streach the coins and that is tough! I am keeping in mind a good flathead with some punch for the future.
nevermind just figured it out ....he means pontiac...another abbreviation to aggrivate the hell outa me.like dizzy= distributor or noz =nitrous oxide.now there are three pony=pontiac
I've got a shiny quarter, send me 2 dozen and keep the change. I'd prefer 327's, but will also take 283's
Hey Turbo, the frame is coming along nicely, and that new cross-member is looking great. SBC's are great motors - sure there are plenty of them used, but for a good reason. Lookin' good - keep us updated. Cheers.
Just ordered one for my A, was planing on using a stock X from the 30's frame but couldn't find one around here that I would not feel sad about cutting up. Dagels super x is way better looking then tube for almost the same price. Do you have a better and more pictures of the brake pedal area, I have some stockers I might make fit if the Dagel pedals are too off for my application.
Thanks for all the comps. Yes the SBC will still be used and I am planning on a different mill in the future. Oldtimer I will take a few pics. of the brake pedal setup this evening and get you a few. I did have to make spacers for the master cylinder since I wasn't planning on running a booster. Very nice kit and it made the frame super strong! I went Saturday and picked up a roof not the greatest but, I think I can work with it. May need some metal men help in the future.
I was just looking to see what I was going to have to do. This will be fun when I get to this point. Looks like it is going to be way on down the road.
Got to the point of pulling everything down and off. The red frame had some issues that I didn't see before pulling the body. I will not get to deep into that.
New frame is really taking shape and will be finished soon. Swapping all the parts that I can and getting ready to blow it back apart to paint!
Body is clean of all it's contents and ready for blasting. Boy am I courious as to what other problems I will find under the paint. The P/O loved seam sealer and wasn't afraid to use the crap out of it. I also built a body dolly and I went to far on hight but, I will fix that soon!
Ya know I have seen a lot of these "coupsters" built as I have seen them called yet I have never seen anyone cut the windshield off and put roadster uprights and a roadster winshield on one. My question is why not? I think that would make it look so much better. Cool car eitherway will be tons of fun, but that is what I would do with it, why not kinda try and complete the look. Jim
I have bought a roof section to try and salvage this car and if that will not work I plan on lowering the dash brace and slick the cowl down almost smooth and put a hard rake windshield. That's why I call it ugly ! I have the A pillars and header to go back to a stock or a full glass insert. I just don't understand what the P/O was thinking.
It is an AR or early '28 at the least. I had one that appeared under my '31 body when I bought it. The front fender braces are rare and the wheels are too. If there was an engine attached the pancake generators bring $$ too.
No extra parts and the front crossmember was not from this frame. Someone had bolted it in with 3 bolts and the rivet holes didn't line up at all. I do believe it to be an early 28 frame as the 31 frame that was under the car had provisions for steering box mounts on both sides and the early frame had only one on the left. Didn't the AR frame have taller rails over the car frame lets say 6" compared to 4"? Could you show me the differences with a pic or 2?
Here's some poor pics of my AR frame from 79 or so. I remember, i think, trimming the rear lip for clearance for the lower pulley. It has the forged brackets through out and a bracket riveted on the left side for the e brake which you can't see in the pics. I think but not sure that the bolt pattern for the fender braces and running board brackets where smaller than the stamped brackets. Nice project you have there. Glad to see you found a coupe roof.
Last weekend I started working on the body. Cut,ground, cused, and did it some more. But, I got a big part of the floor out and cleaned the windshield area up. Not finished yet but I am starting to remove some of the UGLY and make it look like a Ford again! Before After
The frame is almost to the point of tear down and reblast and paint. I still have alot more to do finish welding, grinding, plumbing, etc. I did get to talk to an old friend that said he would help me with the coupe roof and doors install and the chop also. Sorry for the bad pics.
