I have seen several places that sell kits for doing metal Flake.

One I read about was you sprayed on the clear cote and then the flake, then more clear.

Does anyone have any recomendations? I am a novice painter, this will be my 5th.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I lay a base color close to what the flake color is. Then add the flake in a midcoat clear. let that flash and do it again and again until you get the desired effect. Then a few coats of a clear topcoat. Let that cure and be prepared to sand the gravel out of it until you can finally polish it.

I just flaked 2 gas tanks and used kustom shop base, the same color. then added the flake in with their mid-coat clear. I sprayed that until i had it all even. Then 3 coats of straight top coat clear. Then i wet sanded with 600, and then 3 more coats of top coat clear. I have only painted a few things before but the Kustom shop line of paints is really nice to work with. Good luck
