History Flames

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by Late to the Party, Dec 10, 2015.

  1. When did flames first become popular on Hot Rods? Here is a pic of Norm Grabowski's T on the cover of Life Magazine, April 29, 1957. Do y'all have pics of earlier cars with flames?

In my opinion, it's all about the color fade and pin stripe color.

  7. :D You sure are late to the party, ;)there are several threads here already, including one started a month or three ago.
The search function is good to use, but can be hard sometimes.
I'm a big fan of flames, and there are many styles, even back to the early lakes racers.

  8. Thanks for your input, Guys. I apologize for not searching for this info before posting. I'll do some more research to find my answer.

  9. I went to Google and searched for flames on the HAMB. I found threads from 2015, 2013, 2008, and 2007. Lots of good stuff there. Thanks.

Were the comments about WW11 fighters sporting flames true?
    Google came up pretty thin.
Sounds like a logical progression to hot rods.

  11. I have seen pics taken by my father in law of flames on fighter planes in the south pacific. Some resembled scallops more than flames or what we would consider flames.

if you look at early post war lakes cars some of them were flamed and many of them also resembled scallops more that what we normally consider flames. Some were actually pretty crude and made magazine covers. ;)
