Does anyone know what is inside the little black box that comes in the flamethrower kits? I know of people making their own box but I dont know how? any help is appreciated... pompy
if you want to build your own box, take the top off an electronic distributor, grind off 4 of the 8 magnetic pickups, and graft this to an electric blower motor. Wire it up to 2 12 volt coils, an MSD or ignition control module of your choice, and use Harley Davidson plugs with the ends cut off. This set up will **** on any of those "superflames" kits you can buy. Have fun and change your oil.
my ad vice as the mad sientis for my car club JUST BY THE BOX unles you know how to sodder very well and have a good idea of basic transistor and relay wiring if you do pm me an di will let you in on a secret or giv you the best place to get one for cheep
joe thats old school and 52plym thats crazy pain in the but if you want a good one buy a portable ignition system k&d makes one a little rewiring and your good to go itll cost you bout 50 bucks but worth it for an electronic hot box thatll kick everyones *** as for coils plugs n wat not, just use whatever coils you can find that are 12 volts wire them in parallel plugs use champion rfn14ly and cut the electrodes off use antifoulers cut in half as bungs in the tips and CHANGE YOUR OIL i do mine about once a week but my car is a driver so do as you please
What's the skinny on the H D plugs? BTW- I use a pint of ****** fluid,in the tank,on "flamethrower night". Gives a little top oiling, plus makes for a little smoke, and brighter flames!! Sparky (That say's it all)
OK...but how does that simple circuit provide the multiple sparks for the plugs in the exhaust?? Do the capacitors make the SPDT relays 'flutter'? Which is what is needed to fire off multiple sparks. Don't get me wrong, I believe the circuit works, I just wanna know why. Cosmo
the hd plugs are one of the longest plugs ive seen so they go farther into the tip to get a better burn than having the spark sitting on the side of the tip btw sparky are ur flames injected or choked and which tank do u mean the gas tank if their choked or the secondary tank if injected
Shovelhead or Evolution plugs, not Twin Cam plugs. The Twin Cam plugs look alot more like standard plugs. The older style has a bunch of reach to it. -Jeff
Lawn mower plugs work good to, and they have a long reach, i use them and they stick out into the pipes good.....
Low/slo 63, My flames are just exhaust, not injected. I just put 1/2 qt. ****** fluid in a full tank of gas. Flame on 'bro. sparky
I have a question that's worth a threadsurection. ****** fluid in the gas tank? I've never heard of that. Can you or someone else explain? Thanks...
The capacitor charges through the coil primary. When it charges to a high enough voltage, the relay closes. This causes the capacitor to discharge, the relay opens, and the process repeats. Every time the circuit breaks, the coil "fires". The time it takes the capacitor to charge depends on the resistance of the coil primary and the size of the capacitor.
I've heard to make flames you run rich...REAL rich...and wash all the oil off'n der cylinder walls-not good.
There's 3 ways to make flames that I know of: Killing the distributor and dumping all that fuel into the exhaust. Choking it and running rich as royal hell. Pressurized fuel squirted in the exhaust. The distributor kill works best for something easy as hell, and dirt cheap. Just some simple wiring. I used it before and with a manual, you can drive quite a while hitting the flames and the wheels keep the motor turning. Parked and you have to just rev up, flip the switch and flip it back before the engine winds all the way back down. Hard on the motor but this was before my rebuild so what do I care. Since I did rebuild it, that ****'s not going on my new motor. After one night's worth of hitting the flames, the plugs needed to be changed, oil needed to be changed, and the plugs in the pipes were pretty fouled too. I'm going to use propane and an isolated ignition setup. One bottle per pipe and I'm making a mount for them to just screw in and out in the trunk. I'm using those regular ol small blue propane bottles. Two of those should last at least a few months depending on how much I use them of course. I want a way to manually control the valves from the driver's seat so I can throw huge fire balls or just little puffs at idle but I really don't want to plumb propane lines all throughout the car. I'll just settle for a medium sized flame, maybe 4-5 feet. Still interested in this ****** fluid thing. I never heard of it before.
maybe use a LPG lockoff valve close to the pipe?.....the one they use just before the LPG converter........
I'm about to reveal my geek.. I'm building my car to run propane, so fuel is a given, but I was considering using the high pressure propane to run an old locomotive horn and lighting it up as the gas came out of the bell... Think that would get me a ticket?
Technically, the law specifically prohibits any device in the exhaust system of the vehicle to ignite exhaust g***es. Seeing as how the horn is NOT part of the exhaust system, it's probably not illegal. You could probably still get tagged for distraction to drivers though.
One of the guys in my old club ran propane. One of those little bottles will last you about 4 minutes. He used to have a propane tank from a forklift behind his backseat. Lasted him a few months each tank. Just to keep it in perspective. I have a kit that I got godknowshow...but Ill hook it up to my 51 Ford. ****ty SBF, if it blows or starts to huff oil...whatev.
Heres mine. Separate from the engines' Ignition/Fuel systems. Rigged it myself w/MSD parts & ingenuity,,,,its safe. Troy
