Second SOS today, this about Flaming River Corvair box......the set screw is frozen into the set nut, now I realize its got too much play at center etc......SO it takes a LOT of work to get this unit out of its cowl mounted position, question: if I remove the nut and frozen screw does the ball fall down into the box??

Thank you.....worth a look, I guess the worst thing that can happen if the ball falls out inside is that I will have to spend a couple hours removing the box and another to replace it all because the adjusting screw is frozen into the nut after sitting for years.

I was going to go that way for steering, but it didn't happen. Once you have taken this apart and put it back together, let us know what you've learned.

Once the nut and screw are removed from the box, You can at least try lube, heat and vise plus leverage to get them apart.

Every once in awhile you'll run into this on oem gears, the trick that works the best is have someone rocking the steering wheel back and forth while you try loosening the screw. This will work in about 60 to 65% of the time.

Also taken the top cap bolts loose, about half way out, pop the cap up and try loosening the screw then.

Sometimes the screw, which floats on the sector shaft, will freeze to the sector and by popping the top loose or shaking/rocking the steering wheel back and forth will allow enough pressure off of the screw and allow it to turn....
