Flat 6 hardass valve seats?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by drillmastertommy, Jul 21, 2009.

  1. With some hamb help today I managed to establish that the flathead 6 motor I have in my Plymouth pick up is a 1953 218ci and whilst sifting through and reading various threads on related motors I noticed a comment suggesting that these motors were produced with hardened valve seats and as such ran fine on unleaded petrol.

Can anybody confirm or deny that this is or isn't the case?????

Yes, the valve seats are hardened inserts. They can be replaced if necessary. Not like the induction hardened integral valve seats of some of the competition

It is true but unless I am mistaken it is only the exhausts that are hardened. Of course, those are the ones you want to have hardened, so you are indeed good to go.

  5. Sweet, petrol over here is doing anything but getting cheaper so it'll be nice not having to shell out for fuell additive aswell.
