thanks.....thats an oddball the guy said...its FORD!!...all my dad had was Fords didnt look like a ford to me!
Yes, if you have the Rodder's Journal issue with the Edmund's story, I think there is a picture of the Edmunds catalog with that head on the front cover. They were a crazy little motor.
I've just been browsing an ancient HRM with a couple of Nashes in it...one a "Boss" Rambler fitted with an Amb***ador engine...those are the actual carb pads! There was even a factory dual head, I think, for Nash Healey...exhaust was also a weird minimalist thing, just holes in the side of the block that took a special straight pipe with matching holes clamped right onto side... Weren't there two different physical sizes of engine, like Chrysler vs Plymouth sixes?
Actually, the Nash Healey had the Amb***ador OHV six with two side drafts. There was an optional factory aluminum head/dual intake for the flat six, though; I've got one somewhere in my mountain of junk.
Rambler Americans had flathead 6's that were 196 cu in and about 90 HP. They were only about 21 inches long. The Rambler Cl***ic shared the same design with a higher CR and 120 HP, flathead also. Amb***ador shared the NASH OHV 6 and featured a dual jet option but had a seperate intake and exhaust like a real motor.......Then in 58 59 or60, they did their own OHV 6 used in Ramblers and Jeeps and became the basis for the 4 liter used in Cherokees and Wranglers when Chrysler aquired the line.
Well, they had the flat 6 and the OHV V8 from '56 on, we have a '59 American with a flathead six, but my '58 Rambler has what looks like an OHV block (no head). Pretty sure that intake is for older motors. Was it Rambler or Stude that just converted the old flathead motor to an OHV design?
Jeep had an F head engine. Overhead intake head and valve in block exhaust valve, did have crossflow though. Studebaker had flat head 6's and OHV 6's and OHV V8's no combination. Jeep also had an overhead cam 6 for a year ot two in the small pickups and panels ad maybe the cab forward.
Here is my F-head: Upgraded 2 BBl Weber Carb, header, Ported and polished head and block, and a performance regrind on the cam, probably up to ~75HP!!!!
The neat Jeep OHC six ended up produced in Argentina in another make (Rambler American??) and was road raced...
The Jeep OHC six is a weird one. It used two different rod bearing sets. If I rember correctly 1-3-5 used one set and 2-4-6 used another set. I mostly ran into them in a military setup. Hot ****ers but a little weird.
They also used the same (way undersquare) bore and stroke as the flathead six they replaced---not the hot setup for use with a high rpm breathing OHC head.
