Hey guys, I'm a beginner at auto painting and I painted my third car a while back a synthetic enamel flat black. I just got it out of storage last night and spent the day working on it. The paint was still rough so I though that I would do a light wet sanding with 2000 grit sandpaper in soapy water. It came out nice and smooth as expected. When I went to wash the soapy water off I noticed that I now had soapy residue marks throughout the paint. Its not horrible but it definitely looked better before I wetsanded it. Is there any way to repair the damage that I may have done? Can I buff it out and perhaps wax it? Thanks -Cory
now that is as smooth as a babys ass..shoot it one more time with a light coat..it should look fresh. JM2C
A cut and a buff will give it gloss like a normal clear job. I'd re-clearing is the only, and probably best, way to repair it. Can't really touch a flat or semi job once its been sprayed as far as I know.
I would shoot it again, although I live in an apt. complex. When I did it last time, it just seemed too shady (I have a 1 car garage, not spraying it in a parking lot). Also, there is not clear on the car. It is just 2 coats of Synthetic Flat black enamel.
I've detailed professionally for 10 years before I got out of the business. You can definitely wax and buff satin type paint jobs and it will look like you just painted it. However the crap in the paint will come back when the wax wears off. Apply and Reapply as necessary. Good Luck.
I take a soft rag spray a little WD40 on it and wipe the car down once every other week or so. It will look a little streaky going on but if you go over it with a clean rag once you apply it you should be able to even it out. It is not perfect, but it looks a hell of a lot better than without it. Good luck.
