Hey guys, I'm a beginner at auto painting and I painted my third car a while back a synthetic enamel flat black. I just got it out of storage last night and spent the day working on it. The paint was still rough so I though that I would do a light wet sanding with 2000 grit sandpaper in soapy water. It came out nice and smooth as expected. When I went to wash the soapy water off I noticed that I now had soapy residue marks throughout the paint. Its not horrible but it definitely looked better before I wetsanded it. Is there any way to repair the damage that I may have done? Can I buff it out and perhaps wax it? Thanks

A cut and a buff will give it gloss like a normal clear job. I'd re-clearing is the only, and probably best, way to repair it. Can't really touch a flat or semi job once its been sprayed as far as I know.

I would shoot it again, although I live in an apt. complex. When I did it last time, it just seemed too shady (I have a 1 car garage, not spraying it in a parking lot). Also, there is not clear on the car. It is just 2 coats of Synthetic Flat black enamel.

I've detailed professionally for 10 years before I got out of the business. You can definitely wax and buff satin type paint jobs and it will look like you just painted it. However the **** in the paint will come back when the wax wears off. Apply and Reapply as necessary. Good Luck.

  7. I take a soft rag spray a little WD40 on it and wipe the car down once every other week or so. It will look a little streaky going on but if you go over it with a clean rag once you apply it you should be able to even it out. It is not perfect, but it looks a hell of a lot better than without it. Good luck.
